Hi folks,

Matt here. New to the forum and new to fishing.

Got myself some gear at the start of the summer to try mackerel fishing off the rocks at North Berwick in East Lothian , and Elie in Fife. Getting right into it.

I bought my little boy a rod this week as he's excited to come with me next time.

Looking for advice on good places to take a little kid in central Scotland. Ideally no more than a couple of hours drive from Glasgow.

I'm reluctant to take him off the rocks as I wouldn't be able to relax with him on unstable ground that close to deep water.

Any suggestions on more suitable/ safer places where we could fish together? Ideally somewhere he could just drop his lure down and reel it in; as I'm assuming he'll take a while to get a hang of casting ...and ideally somewhere he might actually catch something so as to keep him enthused .

Many thanks in advance

Matt

Any jetty or harbour you should be able to catch mini species almost at your feet,
but I'm not sure if a 6 yo could master the cast & retrieve of lure fishing, so he might be better off with a float set-up.

I was having a look at the quay in Greenock. It looks like it might be suitable for just dropping a baited line with a small hook to the bottom. What sort of mini species could we hope to find ? Assuming anything like that we pull (I'm being optimistic :-) )up we'd just unhook and throw back ?

Welcome to the Madhouse Matt! 👍👍

Good plan to get the young 'un into a bit of fishing, and some sound advice above.

I can't offer any advice on marks, as way down in the far Southwest of the UK! Tight lines!
