Hi all. Things have been pretty awful along the north Kent coast of late with NE winds bringing in more weed and making it largely impossible to fish at all.
Monday night came though and I saw a potential window to have a pop over low water.
I got to my mark nice and early and (unsurprisingly) had the entire beach to myself. I got set up and cast out, I’d only brought one rod with the expectation of hauling tonnes of sea salad every 5mins.
I was fairly surprised however that my rod tip stayed still, I waited, expecting it to drag off downtide at any moment or start bobbing but it didn’t. I left it for 45mins before deciding to check my bait and was astonished to find virtually no weed at all. I’m fairly sure the little I did have was only picked up on the retrieve.
I cast out again full of confidence, my only concern was the staunch NE breeze causing the sea to churn up more than I’d hoped.
Well despite the relief from the weed, the ebb proved fruitless and as low water coincided with darkness, things didn’t really improve.
I started to pick up more weed as the tide turned and I carried on fishing as it flooded, slowly forcing me back to shore.
After 2hrs of flood, I was just about ready to give up when I noticed a pull that didn’t look like weed or tide. I watched for a moment when it really slammed down, this wasn’t weed. I lifted in and felt some good pulls, I knew I was in.
The fish largely swam towards me and it was an exercise in speed winding. I got it to about 30yds out and it decided it had other ideas and put up a great tussle, all good fun in shallow water.
I was pretty pleased after a really slow few weeks to have a 7lbs 2oz hound on the shore before too long. A quick snap and it swam off strong.
No.2 came no more than 10mins later, this time giving a big slack line. This one put up a great scrap from start to finish and even when I got it in, it just wouldn’t give up. Getting a reasonable photo was difficult to say the least. It went 7lbs 8oz and again, swum off like a rocket.
I had a rare snap off on my next cast which was annoying to say the least, I pondered whether to bother carrying on but decided I should as the fish seemed to have arrived.
I quickly changed my reel, got out another rig and sent a bait out but the time had passed and almost instantly it was swept downtide, bobbing and pulling under the weight of weed.
I’d moved so far back towards the shore now and the tide was still gaining on me fast so I decided to call it time… at least I had 2 out!!

Great report, nice one ?

Nice one Stormy, a good session there!

Is that an Abu reel? I’m a bit out of touch on some of the brands.
Yes mate. 6500i TSR. (Otherwise known as ‘the purple one!’)
