Any thought on colours as I intend to rewrap a batch of rods?
Red, blue and white appear to be traditional for Zippys but what was usual for Conoflex?
Must have the colours to hand and get my DIY rod dryer finished.

Black works imo.

Have a look at Rossco Custom Rods gallery if you're looking for inspiration. Black does me fine, usually tipped with a contrasting colour or metallic for pairs or triplicates. Single foot guides for the tips are my preference. On rock and field rods I just use tape.

I`ve built dozens and dozens of "factory" Conoflex. They never really stuck to any hard and fast colour for any great length of time. Few samples attached, heavier rods were for their client in S. Africa, triologies were samples they asked for in various colours.

Most of the conoflex beach casters I remember from the eighties had Fuji guides with the green between the frame and inner ceramic, think they were bnhg ? And many had black whipping with green tipping to match the guides.

I do like that dark red on the 30 pounders. Ruby red? It would go well with a dark blue. Zippys are not going to be red, white and blue, perhaps charcoal grey with either a silver grey or purple false underwrap. I will line up the threads I have and juggle them around.
Test it out on a length of rod blank. Wrapping rods in black gets old very fast.

No it was Gudebrod Maroon NCP . My own personal rod below is Pacbay Ruby red.
