Been struggling of late so was in a quandary of where to go along the south coast between Brighton and southbourne, all roughly the same travel time for me normally. I was thinking widewater, aldwick, hayling island or steamer point, my head has been up my backside regarding on where to go each weekend.
Had to work Friday first so decide whilst at work. Well my choice was made for me by the satnav. Steamer point was over 2hr drive from where I was working, widewater was nearly the place but the M25 was the usual friday car park, so as i was right near the A3 I hopped on that and headed to hayling and I planned to fish there until low and then move to aldwick to fish the night/early morning high to 2 or 3 down. So got to hayling by 4-30pm and got some rag' from the tackle shop, already had squid, bluey and launce in a cool box. Fished for a few hours at eastoke and managed a couple of smut pups and a couple of silver eels, all coming to rag' and squid wraps as the fella in the tackle shop said a few decent hounds were around. Was getting lots of bream rattles so changed one road to a scratching rod. First cast on that rod and it slams over after 15mins only for the small hook to pull after about 5mins, it felt like a half decent hound, typical. Contemplated staying at hayling for the night but decided to stick to my original plan as I keep changing my mind on my chosen venue last minute.
So got to aldwick and set up ready for high. Fished 2 up and 3 down, weed wasn't a problem so all was good on that front. Ended up with 4 schoolie bass, biggest 27cm so nothing too exciting but did manage a hound, that came in at 4lb 15oz.

Which bit of Aldwick do you fish and where do you park ? Marine Drive West ?
Yes I parked at marine drive west. I try and park by the little boat compound that's there , walk through the gap next to the fence and last beach hut and just to your right is a marker pole and I fished near that as I know its clean ground for a good bit before you hit the boulders. The opposite end of the beach huts opposite the waverly is also all clean ground in front. Between these to points there are scattered boulders/mounds. A scout around at low tide will show you how far you can cast in each groin.

Well done, thanks for a brilliant report.

Ah yes I know the spot…I’ve fished it once….I usually go up the other side of the wreck thing that’s on the beach there. I didn’t know about the Waverley spot so thanks for the info. I was there Weds but it was fairly wind so I changed venue to Selsey…..managed an undie and some bream ?

The waverley spot seems very popular, when I've fished aldwick there is nearly always someone fishing there right next to a discharge pipe.
Nice one on your undulate, hoping to get a ray soon as so far this year they have avoided me.
