We had our first club match of the year on Saturday gone, changed from Sunday due to the weather. Fishing was from 3 to 8 and conditions didn't look too bad. The venue was dodds rock/kiltennel beach. I had taken a walk along it a couple of days earlier and it was covered in pieces of branch's and wood from the sea, due to the weather over the last few weeks.
On the day there was 17 anglers, my son drew peg 14, so I got 15 due to him being a junior and I get to draw next to him.
Thank god for the tronixpro trolley, still tough on the stones but a god send.
I always like to be on the pegs early to take the pressure of and get us both set up and to try make things as easy as possible for the day and still I'm trying to find a way to do it, there really is no right way.
So baits today was lug, rag, mackerel, squid and sandeel, rigs were 2 and 3 hook flappers and 4 Oz grips for himself and 6oz grips and buckets for myself.
So all in at 3 and it was very quite, not what I had expected. Plenty of weed and snags with little to know fish, well for me anyway 😂. Roll on an hour later, the nightmare began, it was like a ball of weed, had tangled up my line and with that it dragged my line down into my sons line and next thing I know, we're pulling lines in my hand and trying to untangle our lines for the next hour. Ended up having to cut the lines and reattach the shock leader. A nightmare we could have avoided but that's fishing and you have to take the rough with the smooth.
As for the rest of the night, there was no more snags or weed but very little fish too. I ended up with one undersize whiting and Kalim ended up with his first fish of league and first points on the board with an 18cm whiting, small but enough for the points and the bragging rights on the way home in the car.
I was using a new akios fury 420 tt, with the softer tip and I have to say it's an amazing rod, when I catch a proper fish on it, I'll give it a good review.

Nice write up Robbie.Fished that beach near Courtown quite a few times.Stayed at Woodside,Courtown quite a few times when they were holiday rentals.Had a 10lb Bass out near the car park in the woods along with quite a few Hounds.Does Joe Byrne still have the tackle shop in Courtown.Fished all along that coastline from Greystones in the north to Wexford.Joe put me on quite a few different marks along that coast. The pic below is the unit he moved into when the other shop closed.

I remember that little shop well, lovely little jem of a spot. Fishing can be great along there, it's just a little off at the moment, we have had a few hounds there over the last year but we have still yet to have a bass would you believe

Have you tried the rocky outcrop just south of Courtown Harbour entrance, you can park up close to it only a minutes walk.I've had Bass from there.Have a look at the mark at low water to see what you will be casting into.It only needs an underarm lob to get among the fish.

Here you go,the rocks behind the boats is where you want to be.They will be covered at high tide but you will be fishing from the ledge behind them.

Ballybrack SAC fished a club comp at Dodds Rock beach, where junior anglers put the seniors under serious pressure. New junior member Jessie Murphy took a fine haul of 11 fish to win the junior section, and the senior members had to pull a few tricks out of the bag to do better. Eric Gasparro won Zone B, a late dogfish boosting his score, but it was Stephen O'Reilly in Zone A with 14 fish who took the overall honours.

Yeah that's us, that's the beach that's the thorn in my side 😂 the hassle getting to the peg and the drama fishing the peg 😂
