Hi all. I’ve been out again! ?
Monday night and I fancied getting out, the ever changing wind had finally dropped right off, I’d been walking in the day and it looked perfect! The only trouble was the tide, although small it was going out and not at all ideal for a local session.
In the end, I opted for a low water mark not too far from home even though I knew I’d be waiting a good 3hrs or so until low.
I took my time getting set up and by about 21:30 I was fishing. Low wasn’t until 00:30 but I thought it’d be nice just to enjoy the quiet and relax.
The fish had other ideas though. About 10pm, I got my first bite, a nice solid pull that could only be a ray. Back on the babies again, I got him in and he went 2lbs 13oz. Not exactly what I’d planned but they all add to the tally and I was pleased to land one so early in the ebb.
I wasn’t waiting too long for another bite but as I watched this one develop, my other rod started nodding away too!!!
I made my decision and began making headway on one of the fish but not before checking the drag was loose on the other.
After a lot of pulling and tugging, both were safely at my feet, one at 3lbs 12oz, the other 4lbs 11oz. Three casts and three fish in not much more than an hour!
No.4 was a proper bite, the rod bent over and just kept going. As I lifted in, the fish glued itself to the shallow bottom and I was totally unable to shift it. After a while, I let out a fair bit of slack line in the hope the fish would attempt to swim off... it worked!! I got the fish off the bottom and began my retrieve, it felt a fair bit better and as I got her to my feet, I was convinced she was a double. Alas it was not to be though with just 1oz denying me my second double of the year. At 9lbs 15oz though, I couldn’t complain.
Almost straight away I dropped a fifth fish on the other rod but made up for it with another baby shortly after.
Things quietened down after that which gave me a moment to sort myself out, have a coffee and actually sit back for a bit. I lost one more before low that I was a little eager with but that aside, all was quiet.
I fished probably 2hrs into the flood with only one more fish, a female of 4lbs 15oz for my efforts. I packed up just before 3am after a really enjoyable night!
