Thanks for your report. Unfortunately this year you can just eliminate any good stamp of fish under the 25mile marker. The quotas were increased by 40% last year and this year they have been doubled on the numbers they had been set for last year!!
Basically it means that all the inshore boats have already worked the magic alongside the trawlers and the netters. Absolutely everything is rinsed and completely barren.
Trust me when i say this if you find a honey hole keep it close to your chest! Recently i found a hood stamp of fish on the 40mile marker south of where you were. It’s probably the only feature that hasnt been combed dry. Even the bigger older wrecks i was doing well on last year have been flattened by some big gear and they no longer have a pronounced lump on the bottom but a sort of dragged flat sounder image.
Just thank the gov for letting the big big super trawlers into our waters. Theres nothing left now!
What is shameful is all of the spawning fish have been decimated in the last two years and im afraid its only going to get worse. Hundreds of thousands of tons of spawning bass have been thrown over board dead due to by catch and netters targeting black gold! Then the big vessels now tow over wrecks and take everything.
In 15years of being on the water i have never seen it so bad!
They are now targeting the small fry and sandeels and bait fish for fertilisers this is all granted permission from someone who cannot identify a mackerel from a cod!
This was a day ago and im hoping they dont find this spot
