So Ben and I had a pop at Chesil and for the first time in a few months we went down East.
Ben had got there before me and I walked over the top to see massive weed rafts moving West to East which was a bit of a surprise but I knew that it was not too much of a problem in daylight darkness of course is a different problem!.
So I got set up and waited for the big rafts in front of me to pass by I wondered down to Ben and noticed the 3 blokes with one box, and no shelter in flouro green work coats and thought that they were going to find it tricky!.
The were feathering and Ben and I stood there and watched one bloke land his set of feathers in the middle of a massive raft of weed that had half and old net in it. We watched on with interest as it dragged him along towards up, I expressed my admiration of his line breaking strain as he held on and watched waiting for him to snap the rod he was basically staggering down the beach............ the inevitable happenned and the line parted in the most spectacular way and the rod came back and smashed him in the face knocking 3 teeth out and leaving a very fetching vertical stripe on his forehead as he flew over backwards!.
To give this bloke his due, he tackled back up and cast back out...... so 0/10 for execution but 11/10 for commitment!.
Anyway this was possibly the highlight of the session!.
Big whiting, even bigger pout, bull huss, dogs and straps followed.
The conditions were tough and only my best casts found fish at range with the weed being a constant threat rather than a big problem.
Just a thought but if you arrive down that end in the dark then have a look at the weed situation first using your headlamp maybe before dragging your kit over the mountain.
