Sandown castle was aimed for spot as was going Sandwich but £7 and wind in face wasn't so appealing! So xmas morning drive down was at best "Entertaining" as foggy as F' kept to around 60mph as couldn't even see service exit bit on M2! yet a motorbike past me must have been a Hells angel heading there!
Landed 6.30 am but miserable rainy/whistling wind and cold so seat back and had a kip day light had a gander up top Cold with wind going through two coats!
10mph east more like 35 as wind howling car rocking and trees dancing to xmas jangles! Got brewer out but even that was struggling as gas low! but warm!
Couple of others in car near by had been fishing earlier but got soaked well not wearing suitable winter beach togs for sure! with one of those dodgy tents that was trying to blow away as best could as almost destroyed later on in day. I did give them some of my Black lug as seagulls had scoffed there mackerel baits so they just had Squid plus lost packet of hooks but said can have a rig or two if need as only had too large hooks for Dabs.
Had a wander to shops mind should have got some bacon there and rolls and made bacon rolls! But stuck new gas bottle on Hot brew up so then felt bit more ready to face the Elements so landed Shed on beach which for once played the game and up and ready rather than trying to playing a kite!
Took gear down and set up and away stuck Fathom 12 on LA for first cast went out ok but hands was cold and into a 30plus headwind as checking weather had revised to 30kph then went to 33 but even that was ominous! sea wasn't that lumpy but low tide when turned it got pretty lumpy with waves coming up over gravel bank and sea was like chocolate brown.
Changed both LA's to Power Aero's on J braid Grand as with bottom feeling a tad snaggy and surf Shingling you if not on it plus Headwind with Cold mitts thought better option but with 5oz was going out reasonable way and held "mostly" as could feel leads dragging on shingle till found a happy spot!
My Bagnall bar type wishbone rig worked (Info in rig Section)no tangles with it had a Rocklin! blank avoided then later had a double Rocklin and Dog! Which dragged gear halfway to Broadstairs in tide rip.
Guy came to ask how getting on? We then saw something heading past in sea past surf line just to far to see clearly with waves making it awkward to work out he thought turtle! but not right shape/size really i thought a channel Tourist like Afgan etc who wear those Goat/sheep skin body warmers and could see black at sides which happens to body once been in sea for a while looked like on front So anyway phoned coastguard they arrived with blues n twos had them and body van plus lifeboat not to mention audience of Doggy Walkers!
Well did get part right was Sheepskin but rest of it was indeed a Sheep! F knows how it got into water as no where in that area have sheep?
But said to them could have not called and it had been a body? but they was OK
But by then had had enough just before high water pulled plug on adventure as starting to rain again and was getting tired and cold had another brew then hit the road was miserable as then raining but missed Crash on M2 later by Services mind was starting to get Foggy.
