Spoke to a very helpful Russ yesterday @blakdog is back about spares and fixing a couple of my battered and bruised 7HT STs.
So the upshot.
1) Daiwa have right hand sideplates in stock and they are 56 quid (much cheaper than some resellers) not Blakdog.
2) The 7HT ST is coming out of production.
3) I have bought a few sideplates but Daiwa have 6 left in stock.
4) A point made by Russ, do not stick a shit pinion support in get a decent brass one off Russ, or else you are just moving the loading onto the main shaft direct. If you fit a shit one then the movement you get will do more damage as it wears.

After many years of use and we could be talking about 1000s of hours I am looking forwards to rebuilding these old reels and the parts to do this to bring them back to life will cost over 100 quid.
They will always be a bit "sally gunnell" but happy to have some old friends back on the beach.

Thanks for the advice Russ, I am fairly sure the plate comes with the bearing pressed in, if its not I will update this thread.

You can't beat Russ for a bit (actually a lot) of advice and knowledge. Why others go elsewhere for parts like his mags and pinion supports etc remains a mystery to me.

You'll have to explain what you mean by "a bit Sally Gunnell" though.....?

It's an old crude joke regarding jumping hurdles.............

Ugly as fuck but a good runner!

Don't worry Pete, the ones you had off of me have the good quality brass pinion supports from Russ. ;)

Ian.

@blakdog is back the side plate does not come with the bearing.
It's a separate part. So now I have done a couple one thing seems sensible.
You may as well do the cash and do a full rebuild job while your in there, sideplate, bearings, main gear it's about 125 quid in bits but basically it's worth it on an expensive reel.
I have one distorted spool though which has caused my no end of fuss.... I assumed it was a problem from reassembly and therefore had one reel apart three times, before switching the spool out.
So I just ordered a lot of spares from Daiwa for the future.
I have decided to just refurbish everything I have whilst I am in the mode and have time and have my eye in.... so far so good and thanks for your help.
For your customers it's 126.40 per reel parts only direct from daiwa plus your pinion support.
I have eight no back in service four to do and one so corroded I cannot see it's worth it....

Definitely worth it ... and its amazing how much improved they are afterwards .. especially drags and bearings.

What are daiwa going to replace the 7ht range with
Replace it.. I don't think they will bother with a direct replacement. The UK market is so small it's not significant to Daiwa... it would be nice to see some new reels.
