With Monday being the only day without rain being forecast, I decided to pop down to Weymouth and see if I could bag another species.

I pitched up on the Stone Pier and set up two rods. One with a float to see if I could tempt an early garfish, and the other with small hooks baited with rag to see what might be lurking on the bottom.

It quickly became evident that the bottom was carpeted with crabs. If they counted for the species hunt I would have had four:
  • Common shore crab
  • Velvet swimming crab
  • Edible crab
  • Spider crab
Yes, I'm afraid the spiders have shown up. :(

I managed to lose three baits on the float, but never saw any bites.

On the bottom I fared a little better:
  • 3 corkwing wrasse
  • 1 rock goby
  • 1 sea scorpion
  • 1 tompot blenny (yeah! new species )
Not a brilliant day but nice to be out in the sunshine.

Tight lines and thanks for reading.
