Popped along to the beach I took my London mate too last week to see if any Bream had turned up, John was busy at home sloshing paint around his lounge so was on me todd for this trip. Started in a different spot than last time, spent 2 hours sat there hoping I had made the right choice, but the motionless rods told a different story, so just after high water I dragged me gear back along the beach to where I had a few Wrasse before and not too long after casting out the reel screamed away and a nice fat 3.8lb lump of Ballan was on the beach saving the blank.
A quick swap of spools after managing a crack off and the new braid spool resulted in a huge great wind knot a eagle would have been happy to nest in, so back to the first spool, thought id sling it out while hunting for the leader at the bottom of the box and yes that the one that went screaming off again, carefully bringing this one through the surf and another 3lb plus Ballan was at my feet.

Leader on and back to happy fishing, had a smaller wrasse around the 2lb mark and a couple a Corkings which was bit of a surprise. As the tide dropped away I was beginning to hit the weed of the reef with not much of a cast, so back along the beach I took the gear, which took me to where the tiny pouting live, baits stripped very quickly, that I was soon down to my last worm, out he went and a schoolie came back in on him on the last cast.

Yesterday after sorting dinner for every one I said im going to have a couple hours over the breakwater as its a lovely evening, was a few people on there already including new member @Zeb and his brother, so a nice chat with them, before popping to my spot, first cast was a Goldsinny then the next one was a bit of a surprise, a Cuckoo wrasse.

While I was fishing I had a text from @Tatunka joe saying one of his club members fishing a match on the breakwater has had a nice Cuckoo too, then @Zeb comes along asking what this fish is, another bloody Cuckoo!!, these fish are turning up nearly as much as pout do, well not as much maybe.
Worms all gone and light fading I walked back to the car after another quick chat with Zeb and his brother, they had had a few nice fish out as well, plus they informed me about a red finned fish they had a few days earlier, only one I could think of was what id been trying for, a Baillions Wrasse, guess ill have to spend a few more hours over there then.

Good stuff mate!! And yes there seems an abundance of the wrasse about, beautiful things they are

I’ve one Bob, some good wrasse there! I’d like to fish a beach where you can cast to the wrasse rather than dumping your gear in the middle of the rough stuff like we have to here
