Good evening I've just got back in from my second session of the weekend. As the title says it's my first bait session of the season after codling. Last night me and a mate Mick decided to try our local beach at crimdon low water at 22.05
1.9m tide.
I had a drive down yesterday morning at 09.30 to do a recce of the area for the night. Way to the left in front of the rocks looked the best spot as the gully in front of the steps was only about 80 yards wide still deep but didn't look fishy at all. armed with these bad boys 1000015987.jpgoff we went. Bait was yellow tail, squid and cart wings.
We got to crimdon for 19.45 having to wade knee deep to get on the sand bank the water was washing over the top till about 21.00.
Mick was first into a fish a whiting😲 oh feck luckily they weren't there in heavy numbers as you know they can be a ball ache. Next it was my turn a little rattle and in came a dab 1000016020.jpgabout 27 cm Measured and returned. It was very slow going just after the tide turned I got another little rattle and another dab this one a bit bigger at 33 cm.1000016024.jpgAbout 23.30 the water was rushing in over the sand bank time to get off as it comes behind the sand bank and traps you, the gulley can end up at 5 ft deep in no time so that was the end of that session wasn't a blank but no codling ☹️.
Today's session found me and another mate at the north gare at Hartlepool. This is where I've been doing all my lure fishing for bass but had loads of bait left off last night we decide to give it a go.
High tide at 17.10
5.2m. I arrived at 14.30 my mate Bertie and his son had been there half an hour before. My first cast resulted in a baby bass not my smallest but wasn't far away from being a new pb🤣.1000016033.jpgAbout an hour before high I decided to move to the end.
1000016030.jpgThe trap was set.
I chucked this one out about 140 yards and waited and waited nothing brought it in and it was stripped clean.
The crabs had arrived, shortly followed by a bloody big bull seal it's head was massive about 50 yards out so decided this was my last cast. Out it went, just as it was getting dark my mate phoned and said him and his son were going and hadn't even had a bite.
Shortly after I brought my last one in. And low and behold target achieved 1000016037.jpgIt was feckin tiny but a codling nether the less hopefully they will only get bigger as the winter approaches.
So for the rest of the week I'll be keeping an eye on the weather and the tides for next weekends adventure till then you lot have fun 🎣🐟.

Mission accomplished 💪
Enjoyed reading that.

I'm with Pete, now I've looked properly, they are mud rats not dabs👍
