So looking at the forecast which was basically unbroken sunshine n 26 degrees.... i knew it would be tough but the hope of winkling out some plaice and knowing every where else was probably going to be equally hard...... chesil it was!!!
Out went loops, pats and up n overs with blacks, rag, squid n lumps of fish some long some no so long.
So off me n Ben went, feck it was roasting, crystal clear sea, baits went out and nothing happened till a couple of hours in when the tide turned.... Ben kicked us off with a tub n red gurnard and I managed a couple of plaice and some massive scad!.
As the light went the straps moved in and apart from a few bits they shut us down.
Sitting on Chesil as the sun dropped and the heat receded..... drinking a brew and a few fish, lifes good.

Good effort Pete. On the beach, fishing and a brew, heaven.

On a side note, how did you get on with the Daiwa rod you had off of me. ?

Ian.

So range was always going to be important so I took my fave long distance rods out, but did chuck that daiwa in my bag.
Build quality is excellent....
It is a remarkably good rod, beautiful build and very capable.
Blank weight to power was excellent.
Length 14ft same as my others, is a great length to get some tip speed going.
Great daiwa reel seat....
Strapped a 7ht st on loaded with .33 drop about 8ft otg and off we went with 5oz.
Frankly I was surprised at the range it went and how much power the blank is able to store.
I really think its a good rod and beautifully made.
I would have zero problems recommending it to anyone who was looking for a mid range rod where the general usage is just over 5oz.
I use Italcannas for max range they do edge the daiwa on refinement and bite detection, but not on power and distance.
I reckon most people would be surprised how good these are and would not find them wanting in any department I like them a lot better than some of the premium rods.
Vfm wise a great buy....
And if anyone reads this and is considering buying its important to consider what I want from a rod generally and how I use them.
I generally fish chesil and means long range and lateral tides, I can cast and generally I use an aerialised otg cast or otg and I can smack it.
If you fall in the category where you are a less than medium caster then look for a rod with a slightly softer tip, if you cant deploy the power in this rod you may as well have a better tip.

Nice Red-spot, were you the same colour after in that heat??.
Taking a shelter for shade only happens a couple of times a year...... I must apologise to other anglers I got my kit off and went in for a chill out and dripped dry when i got out.......
Expect Greenpeace were called but no one kept trying to roll me back in or pour buckets of water up my blowhole, so alls good!

nice fish on a day many would of blanked

Thanks, properly sweaty stuff.... Ben and I definitely fished quite hard and got a bit of luck..... any lure boys reading saw several big fish cruising about and having a jump about....

Roll on September and them daddy plaice! Not long now :)

If you still have the daiwa in sept, I'll bring some monies down and if I don't get on with it I've got a daiwa fan friend who will happily take it. I'm surprised how well the daiwa rods have come along, lightness is incredible, still but the main bit for me is they have gone to a sensible diameter butt.

Its all yours mate, I have had a play!

Nice report Pete. Sunset on Chesil can be amazing and few places better IMO. So it was your fault the exe suddenly filled up and soaked me feet. 10 min and the water went out at a rapid rate ? coincidence or …..

That may have been the bird just west of us with the massive buoyancy aids who jumped in...... a sight to behold!

Better than having some old bloke with skin like an elephants knee with no kit on deciding to sit 20 yards behind your shelter and sunbathe for an hour ? hid in me shelter for an hour feeling ill ?

Remember now when fishing cogden to bexi stretch look out to sea and don’t look back. Starting to hope me eyesight gets worse at least without glasses I won’t get a nasty shock ?

its a start dave..... having one of those years where I can only get one or two of anything, but sure I will get into some sort of groove at some point!
Good to see your bass, caught East of one of my fave spots, they are East n West lets hope I can winkle one out of the middle!.
