THREE
5.6.22. chesil ,portland, o3.
fished midnight to midday ,
tides were neap, highwater at midnight ish. in amongst this s**t year i finally felt the need to fish again, didn't care where hence venue choice- was hoping for some fresh mackerel in the morning.
weather was dry and clear sky, no wind , sea was flat calm though a light sw picked up a little movement on the water as the morning progressed. moon looked to be in first quarter and set shortly after midnight leaving a clear star field.
baits were unimaginitive with frozen lug / squid & bluey. rigs were short pennels, and some small hooked scratchy flappers and clip downs.
pout on first cast followed by a small huss looked promising but it died as the tide dropped, most rigs came back smeared with may rot masking hooks

.just before dawn i missed a strong bite to a pout deadbait in close, as the sun rose i could see that the water was very coloured at low tide, but this cleared as the tide rose flung some feathers about with no joy on the mackerel front. however the mayrot caused grief all tide for bottom fished baits.
. had one or two knocks about 2 hours up and it felt like i lost a bream at one point. squid seemed to be the only bait having any effect all morning. only saw a couple of lights either side of me overnight but the morning saw checkpoint/ chesil center sections fill up with hopefuls.
