Fished Abbotsbury today from low water. Alot of weed in the water and despite it being rough it was easily fishable . Unfortunately nobody told the fish that . Blanked not even a bite , the guys fishing either side of me faired no better .

Would rather blank than catch nothing reasonable which may well be me tomorrow into Tuesday, but to lose a decent fish is not good😩

Unlucky Colin, seems darkness gets a few fish going.

Yeah still got the boat . It's out of the water at the moment ive also got to get round to advertising my Predator 165 for sale .Good luck if you get out weather seems to be kinder for boating during the week than it is weekends .

Pete I had planned to fish the tide up into darkness and back down again . But after a bite less afternoon fishing in the dark unhooking bootlaces n pout lost it's appeal . Although I know it could have switched on and been a cracking evening

I'm not sure Chesil is worth the journey for me anymore as it's a two hundred mile round trip and has been very hot and miss. My local beaches are certainly better in the summer for rays, bass, bream, sole etc. maybe better now I have the Moho so if conditions aren't right I can sit it out in comfort.

Same - I do like Chesil BUT it's a very popular destination so mucho hombre on the beach.

As always luck is a mayor component:

Saw that as I follow him but he spends a huge amount of time there.
Absolutely - should have said so in my post - it seems on average he's there once a week and he usually catches "something" and sometimes he also blacks.

I haven't seen the video but OMG what a thumbnail.

The thing with Chesil is, unlike the BC where there is no water at times, there is always water on Chesil, so people think that they can just rock up and catch. The fishing on Chesil is tide and condition dependant, just like any other beach. The feeding windows can be very small, leaving hours of nothingness and wasted bait. You can fish different methods to while away the slack moments on the beach, for example light float, popups etc in the gutter if calm. There are a few exceptions on chesil, rocky areas, wreckage can always hold fish but these areas are few and far between. I personally prefer clear, calm water, a reasonable tide, with high water coinciding with last light. You can gaurentee there will be codling out in the tide (you just need to know what bait and part of the beach to fish). But again you will have roughly a 3 hour window over low, and a 3 hour window over high, slow in between. Chesil is all about tides, conditions and light levels. Anyone who fishes chesil knows the tide will slow down and change direction mid tide, this is the most important thing to consider when it comes to being consistent. Or you can just rock up and may be, be lucky!

Totally agree with above post . Even tho I wouldn't class myself as a chesil pro I do alot of fishing up there and fortunately rarely blank . Sunday it wasn't my day although the conditions were good . That's fishing for you . I'll be back up over xmas That's for sure

The fish don't always read the script, beats working any day though 👍🎣

kind of stating the obvious but it’s also the kind of mark that produces for those who are either local and can target the right windows or at least make a lot of trips there.
Unless you have the local knowledge or are shown where to go, for many of us it’s a lottery suck it and see approach.
It is though nice sometimes to get away from the BC tidal range and fish somewhere static, though I don’t bother with tents or 24 sessions, 12 is my absolute limit there and usually much less.

That said, it has been known to get the location, bait, conditions etc absolutely right and be fishing near locals convinced it’s looking bang on, then barely anything is caught.
But such is Chesil 🙄

This is very true, being local is a massive advantage, once you've sussed the feeding times, you can just pop down for a few hours, catch some nice fish, jobs a good un. I'm sure I'm as guilty as everyone else, make a long day of it because of the drive, feeding time arrives but your half burnt/destroyed/drunk/sleepy... delete as appropriate 😂 end up totally missing the feeding window. I've fished chesil for 40 plus years and 90% of the time can predict what will be caught and when, being friendly with the locals helps, I was lucky in that a couple of old boys very generously took me under their wing and shared 70+ years of experiences with me. The locals still blank, not very often, but it happens to the best of us.
