Need a cheap sinker mould... deep sockets of various sizes to get a range of weights;)

Be careful, cheap moulds are nasty moulds.

I saw a web page where they guy was making lead weights from a 14mm pipe wrench socket . Thing is they were only 35g and I thought why not use a deep socket going to give an array of different weights depending on the size and you can pick these sockets up at auto jumbles for very cheap.

As someone who makes their own leads and has tried the cheap route with the scars to prove it, treat yourself to a couple of decent moulds.

Just get some wood drill holes in it to size can even drill small holes from other side for wires turn over then pour then break apart once cooled! but things like sockets are one piece so often won't be able to get lead back out and as hardened/chromed metal can react to heat of lead and get's very dammed hot and cheapo sockets can burst with heat and expanse of lead

You beat me to it Tourno about getting the lead back out of the socket. I was going to suggest wooden moulds too. Best plan is to use bone dry hardwood. Drill a suitable hole in a plank with a spade bit in from the edge, and then use a bandsaw (or handsaw) to split the mould before clamping it together and filling it. You could just drill the lead afterwards for gripper wires, but you would also have to carve some grooves for the wires to latch into.

Water or damp & molten lead are not a good combination, and don't pour lead into mounds on a damp concrete floor. Welding gloves, safety glasses and a respirator (not the paper Covid masks) are essential. I can buy 4oz gripper leads for £1, so I don't really think it is worth the risk to make my own.

Have you got access for lead or are you kntending to scale a few chateau roofs?

An uncle of mine was a BT engjneer way way back in the day. I remeber making leads with him and my dad using an upturned phone bel and bit of thick copper wire for the loop. I thjnk the bells might have been brass?
Does Mr Pullen not do weights into cut lenghts of copper pipe? He aslo does a wood mould and I am sure just rolls some smaller ones from lead roll?
