I remember at the start of the Covid lockdowns Mike, a lot of tackle items were unavailable. Thousands of containers stacked up in the Ports awaiting customs clearance, haulage delays, and tackle shops just not getting the stock customers were asking for. I remember searching for a Penn reel, and nobody had any stock.
I guess as Covid eased, stocks were replenished, and a lot of tackle stores were now overloaded with stock that had previously been sat in the Ports.

Regarding Tony's OP about bulk hooks, there are packs of 100 & 500 hooks on eBay, but they are all from China, quality unknown.
