Went along to Branscombe yesterday evening in the hope of a Scad, car park was pretty busy when I got there but not that many on the beach, but lots of them on there was all looking west!!, ah, the Red arrows was flying around, nice of them to put a display on for my arrival there  .
Couldn't get to the spot I fancied as a family was camped out there so went to where the stream is, got the bait in the water and started another rod up to see if any Mackie's was around and promptly found a snag that ate the feathers.
Another angler was walking by as this happened and stopped for a chat, which I got some good info from, after he carried on his walk to the end of the beach to fish, I started to retrieve the first cast gear, half way in it got hit and was going all over the place, a feisty Mackerel was to blame, was very happy to add him to the bait tray.
Nothing happened till dusk when a small Tub Gurnard took the rag bait, then back to quiet again till proper dark, had the ratchet go on one rod but nothing on there, so decided to swap the rigs around and slung out a pully rig loaded with a chunk of the fresh Mackerel, about 20 mins later was a few tiny taps on it then a nice pull down, fish on, didn't feel big or pull much, only because it was a little Small eyed Ray, happy days, some pics for the hunts before he swam off.
Was starting to get some tiny bites ater that on on the rag and sandeel baits, couple of the culprits came out, tiny Pouting!!
Didnt have a touch on the feathers, managed to find some other tackle hungry snags on the bottom rods and didnt see any signs of the Scads I was after, packed up at high tide and trudged back to the car park happy with a new species.

Well done on another species, excellent work.

Really not sure what the hell is going on this year, not many mackerel, no gar and despite 3 sessions aimed at scad on the lrf gear so far this month not a single one of those yet!! Its a very weird time and not sure if it is going to happen now?‍♂️

Nice going Bob. I had one on feathers at dusk on Chesil a few weeks ago, they’re usually mixed in with the mackerel as darkness falls, especially if they’re hitting bait fish, which these were.

Jealous of the small eye, I’ve only ever caught thornbacks (and common lol).
If you’re ever over Kent way, Dover Shakespeare beach is always full of scad.
Massive species tally, well done mate!!
