Quick report of yesterday, started on the breakwater around 7.30 in the morning, plan was to try for Coalfish at the end, then move for a Baillions, well got to the end to find it rammed with fluffers and floaters, so went back to try for a Wrasse on the bottom, managed a Ballan on the second cast so no blank.
Was slow going after that, with a fish every now and then over the next 3 hours, had 12 fish and 5 species but no Baillions, couple the Ballans was over a pound and one chunky Pouting was in the mix. Not many Mackerel came up either to the amount of people fishing for them.
In the evening went over to Torquay and found the fish in very hungry mood, virtually fish a chuck, all small stuff, the size 20 hook can tell you how small they was, bar one hefty Ballan that took the bait and snapped me off.
Used 1 and a half worms for 40 plus fish and 8 specie's, a mix of Pouting, Poorcod, Pollock and Gobies, with half the fish being Pouting, tho I did get what I wanted just as the sun was going down, a Leopard spotted Goby, was very happy with him, a few more Pouting came out before I decided to call it a day.

Are you not disappointed when you say that you are there to catch only one specific species, but end up with everything else other than what you wanted to catch?
I've always found that I intend to catch something, I'm not really bothered what specific species it is, but to catch instead of blanking.
I suspect it's because I live so far away from the coast ?.
Obviously if it's on your doorstep, you can afford to be different?
Nice catch all the same ??

Nice one Bob - if it was the same as here, at least it was fairly dry all day. Nice photo, another one for the hunt, and no blanks! ??

Its a yes and no answer, when you doing this hunt thing instead a just pleasure fishing, you are hoping for that new species every time the rod twitches, its nice to catch any fish, tho getting 20 odd tiny pouting can get a bit tedious, but that comes with the territory on mini bashing and if your lucky getting the thing your after is the cream on the cake.

Great session mate. (y)

Ian.
