I spent last week in a friends caravan on the seafront, fishing was dire, just a few Whiting and dog fish.
However, one lunchtime I got talking to a local couple who were walking the seafront and taking pics of the litter left by fishermen. They showed me some, bait bags, line and hooks, food wrappers, broken flask, bottles and tins. Someone's dog picked up a whole squid on a pennel rig that was dumped on the pavement.
One of the concrete benches was covered in squid and fish remains. Worst of all was human excreta and toilet paper at the bottom of the steps.
Locals are understandably upset and are noting car numbers during high tide, reporting those parked illegally and taking pics of those they suspect of littering.
Their intention is to get fishing banned from the seawall.
I'd like to say it was only one or two people but sadly it seemed at least half of them left something behind.
Quite frankly it's disgusting.

People are disgusting leaving rubbish everywhere they go , beaches in the summer , on the moors , Mac Donald rubbish everywhere, they are lazy . A lot of anglers are the same unfortunately. If you say anything all you get is swear words .sometimes its best to say excuse me have you forgot something.

Seen it here before, lights on the rocks on a night of sleet, rain and bitter cold wind next morning the place is a dump!
As this is a new site forum and most of us on here can only relate to previous debates we have had elsewhere (a bit sensitive at present), the blame was mainly put on your holiday makers from some.
It proves not be the case and it's a real shame that things will not end up the best for anglers if it continues.

I will have blamed holiday makers in the past but only if I know it was holiday makers.wont blame people for something they haven't done.

It is not just a problem on the wall at Blue Anchor. I have seen anglers on the beach in front of the Chalets just chucking their rubbish towards the sea at the end of a session. I have had some really heated arguments with several. It certainly isn't just holidaymakers but by the same token, it certainly isn't just anglers! A section of society seem to think that they can just throw rubbish where ever they want and it makes me so angry!

I could go on about making it an education issue and how it needs to be taught in schools, or how parents need to drum it into their kids but to be honest none of that would work. The people that don't litter would continue not to do so and those scum w****** that do would just continue to not give a flying **** and would just leave their rubbish everywhere!

Massive fines that couldn't be paid at a rate of 50p a week out of benefits, confiscation of tackle if they are anglers and prison for multiple time offenders!

Sorry, Timmy, didn't mean to hijack your fishing report with a rant about litter.

Sorry to hear that the fishing wasn't great. At least you were out. I'll hopefully be able to meet up with you at some point in the future for a fish there once this Covid stuff is out the way.

I ALWAYS leave a venue with more rubbish than I take, cant bare to leave it even if it's not mine. I think ANYONE who leaves rubbish of any description is a disgrace to our sport and a total f...... c...
Tight lines to all respectful and proper anglers.

This is the problem with easy access marks.
I often find that the sort who only want to pull up on the seafront and fish out the back of their van, or next to it, are just as lazy about other aspects of their lives ie if they can’t be bothered to walk a few hundred yards to a better mark, are they going to care much about dropping litter?
It’s a sort of lazy, instant gratification attitude that is so prevalent in society these days.

Don’t get me wrong. Easy access marks are great and essential for people with mobility or health issues, older people, young children, those learning to fish and indeed anyone who just fancies a few hours easy fishing without a killer walk or climbing over rocks and boulders. We all do sometimes!
But they also attract a large proportion of the ‘drongo’ element imo. Which I don’t usually mind as it keeps the majority of them there and away from the marks I want to fish!
But they’re also right out in the public eye and aside from littering being bang out of order anyway, it gives anglers a bad name.

Tbh, as you say, I think it’s a fair chunk of people and unfortunately not just a tiny minority.
And it probably looks even worse when the majority of those sort of people congregate in marks like that where their idea of a fishing trip is at best staggering 50 yards along a pavement with tonnes of crap they don’t need.

But what the answer is, I don’t know. Prevent them going there and they’ll go somewhere else, plus it will deny the mark to those who genuinely need the easy access.

Perhaps the only thing that would really work is fairly tough wardens with the powers to enforce parking and littering fines and literally patrol the area constantly.
Of course that’s unlikely to happen, I expect.

Just to add to my above post, Cfish is right. Even a lot of ‘proper’ anglers seem to drop litter like there’s no tomorrow.

I fish, have fished, a rock mark that is a good half hour plus difficult hike to reach and when you get there you find litter everywhere, often all just chucked behind in a rock crevice. Quite often it’s absolutely minging too.

It’s all mostly light stuff like bait wrappers, old line etc, so why it just can’t be shoved in a carrier bag at the end and carried back, I will never understand.

It's got fk all to do with fishing imho, it's a major attitude problem everywhere. Where I live is like a shthole, there is a very high population of foreign workers at the nearby factories that empty their cars on the roads outside their works, bottles and cans everywhere, smashed glass all over the pavements. There must be hundreds of tons of stuff under every hedge and bags of rubbish and bottles are hurled out of moving cars regularly. The council don't empty roadside bins often enough yet folks continue to just throw stuff in the general direction of the overflowing bins anyway. I walked the dog recently through the industrial estate and couldn't believe the amount of stuff blowing about. This is not anglers, anglers to me are a very small part of a country wide problem. On the whole most I know take theirs and other anglers litter home where possible?

Yes I agree. We’re only talking about it in the angling context here but you’re right, so many now seem to think it’s okay to litter or just don’t care.
Really don’t understand the attitude and can only assume poor upbringing, as more and more generations pass on bad habits.
I don’t know whether the European immigrants are worse but I’ve seen plenty of Brits doing exactly the same.

As regards anglers. Yes I know plenty who take litter home but I’ve also seen plenty who don’t bother too.
Lost count of the amount of times I’ve spent an entire session chatting on and off with apparently decent anglers nearby who seem good blokes, engaging and know their fishing. They say goodbye to me when they go and then when I walk past their pitch an hour later my heart sinks to see it’s such a pigsty, with lots of casually discarded litter that wasn’t there at the start.
And it’s often just sheer lazy and casual things such as cans of coke left floating in a rock pool or empty mackerel wrappers.
And these aren’t people who you’d think were noddies, or ‘drongos’ or danglers, these are experienced anglers and it seemed, decent people. Yet they felt it was okay just to drop crap everywhere.
Honestly, I’ve seen it so many times and not always on busy easy access marks, often as well on out of the way rock marks too.

I just really don’t understand it. An extra carrier bag as rubbish bag goes in my rucksack as standard, I don’t even think about it.

Well done getting out and catching a few fish. There is no excuse for leaving litter, im forever clearing litter from the fisheries i bailiff, i have had 3 members thrown out of the club this year for chitting behind the peg, total scum, if you bring it with you bag it and bin it simple.

Out of interest, are the holiday camps/caravan parks still open?

I bet a lot of those fishing are not locals but have travelled more than 30 mins.

Saying that I doubt it makes any difference where they are from.... They are low life litterers first anglers 2nd.....for some reason go to any event a day after punters have gone home, and rubbish will be everywhere from all types of people.... The sooner council's start heavy fines to pay for wardens the better I say ?

The site is open but very few people there. Most are like my friends who live on site for 11 months each year.
