Went out with me mate off Lyme today in his predator 165 for a bit of a cock about first off drifted a patch off rough waiting for enough tide for the plaice I snagged a small thorn back nowt else tide picked up so we went for a crack at the spotties slow but we managed one each small and both went back git bored of that so shot over to the reefs of Seaton drift the rough I was on prawn and worn my mate was working a new little slow jig from sidewinder I smashed out 3 nice Cuckoos he snagged two nice ballens on the jig and a decent squid ? we set up the same drift again swapped rods me with the jig he had bait he smashed out a couple of cuckoos including a 1 lb 7 specimen and a pout I had another small cuckoo small pollock and my first squid sweet ??? mate needed a whiteing for his boat species comp so we shot off to the edge of the reef over some mud had a small one within 2 mins so then we went and tried something a bit different we know where the netters have been smashing out turbot and rays and me mates got the numbers for them so with no tide running we shot off there for a bit of an Experiment long story short my mate got smashed by a big fish ran well but was on his turbtine species rod so chouldnt bully it at all and sadly lost it probably a decent blonde saw the rest of the day out snagging a few dogs and talking shit till there was enough water in the harbour to trailer the boat .
So a good mess about day with a few things Of interest like that jig being an Absolute slayer and the new mark has some major potential interestingly one of the beer boats snagged a 7 lb 11 oz brill not to far from us so those rolls Royce fish are about but need to put a whole day into them sadly the may water looks like it’s gonna be a bastard this year with the sea starting to get thick with weed hopefully a decent blow will turn up and disperse it other wise gonna be a slow few weeks ?any hoo good laugh small boat fishing’s the dogs and had me first squid

Haven’t really had any prolonged wind I know we’ve had it bad the odd day but no constant winter storms plus just had a decent spell of hot calm wether I was boat fishing up the bc in shorts and T-shirt in march just seems to be a lot of weed debris in the water atm not a good sign remember a few years ago when we had a real long settled spell of hit weather in spring was like pea soup for weeks killed most fishing apart for them rays don’t seem to bother them hopefully will get a blow and it will break it up before it can settle ??????
