Headed back to my low water bass mark with @Christurner today.
Bait was spider crab peeler once again and although the surf wasn’t quite as big as I’d like, there was still a nice little wave licking over the rocks that should stir it up enough for Mr Bass’s tastes.

I had a bite after a few minutes and struck into something lively… for all of about a second, then it was gone.
Chris had a knock, then that was it for awhile.

We were only fishing 10-20 yards out, in the surf, so i lobbed one a bit longer albeit parallel, to the rocks where the surf was a bit better.
Suddenly, whack! A fish leap out of the water and it was game on!
Unfortunately after a few seconds I realised it was a hound. Nice to see but not the target.
Still, he gave a good account of himself in the shallow water, making zig zag runs, and it took a bit to steer him to shore, where he turned out to be a lot smaller than I’d thought.

Maybe 6lb? Sorry for the weird facial expression! I always seem to look special needs whenever I try to smile for the camera ?

That was it then for a good hour or more, no knocks for either of us, zip, nada.

I was beginning to think the trip would be a bit of a bust, but as the flood started, I looked over and Chris had a decent bend in his rod. (Ooer!)

I could see it would have a few rocks to come over but could also see trying to cross where I was would probably put me arse deep in the gully.
After a bit of dithering I circled around him and waded down on to the lower rocks.
It was indeed a bass, and slid quite nicely over a couple of low bits of reef before I could get the net under it, just to make sure.

4lb 11, nice fish.

A few minutes later, Chris was in again, but it soon revealed itself to be a hound and he shouted across he would sort it as I had bait in the water.
I must admit I chuckled a bit as he wrestled with the feisty shark then ended up chasing it up a gully after it was unhooked and it decided to bolt the wrong way to freedom.

It looked as if things were picking up and the fish were biting, but then everything went quiet again.
Plus the tide was flooding in quicker than it receded, or so it seemed, and we soon had to retreat back over a couple of gullies, otherwise the trip back would have been a tad wet!

So, a little slow, but Chris had a nice bass and we had a hound each, so definitely worth the trip.

Back there tomorrow with @Ollieollie ??

Thanks for basically doing all the hard work @Mr Fish and for the report. Cracking day out. I'll try and take more photos next time so you can choose a less 'special' one.

Ever thought of setting up a guiding/gillie service?

Great report mate! ????. Good read & photos, a couple of nice Hounds, and a stunning Bass for Chris!

Now, every time I hear stories of you lurking in bushes, I have this as a vision of you peeping out the top! ????

Sometimes I can look half normal, but point a camera at me and I turn into Spasmo the Third ???
I had a good mate (another Chris, sadly departed a couple of years ago) who, every time someone had a camera out, managed to photobomb the picture with his huge grin. He could be 30 yards away, not even meant to be in the photo, and every time, there he was, bless him!

Great report, nice one ?
