Well guys, for many various reasons (mainly the Pointer training and some underkeeping) I have not sea fished since Christmas last year. I have missed it and after the reports of chesil codling and fish from the Bristol channel I just had to get 'back in the saddle'. However, car failed the MOT a couple of weeks ago on a corroded subframe, although I found one in Spain which is winging its way here, and new car is being picked up on Friday, so I was borrowing wifey's 'pristine car' (even the dogs not allowed in it , ...apologies, I digress!
Armed with some (recently) frozen peeler and some lovely slaps ...and some grotty frozen squid, I ventured forth this morning
Venue was the Royal, Portishead. This has proved a good spot for me over the years on neaps. Well, I arrived at 8.25am for a 12.35pm HW, all looked good, nice mix of sand/mud and wrack.
I had hoped for maybe a late sole (this mark had delivered before), maybe a bass or codling and probably a strap.
Right, I've strung this out long enough now.........Upshot was several pin whiting up to about 8" (In the end the largest went back out as bait .....but to no avail) however come 10.30am there's a nod on the manky squid rod...... strap I thought, so lifted into it... well I was more than pleased when this surfaced....
55 cms and 3lbs 14 ozs....can't wait to go again now
cheers Lads
