It looks like there is a break in the weather and I should be able to get in a day out at St Jean de Luz :) The tides are right and it should be reasonably warm and sunny. High tide is at 1400 so I should be able to fish three or four hours of the incoming and maybe an hour or so of the ebb . We are on curfew and I must be in the house by 1800 so will have to leave about 3pm . Just taking my lure rod and also the float rod to have a bash with a bit of prawn and mackerel . At least it will be a day out :D

The fine for not being at home before 1800 is €135! Expensive days fishing if I get that wrong :ROFLMAO:
Tell me whats the difference to covid between 17..55 and 18.01? Does it have a watch or something?
Mind it is France and there French! Can't even drive on the correct side of the road!
And if they don't want our Lamb well we don't want there Letters!

It is simple logic the main vector of this virus is irresponsible young folk going out on the town every night until the early morning hours spreading the virus left, right and centre . The government has rightly identified this and put out a general curfew only those who can justify their being out between 1800 and 0600 will escape the fine ... or would you rather the virus was just let to run riot. Yes it is France and it is the French ... we are not on lockdown :ROFLMAO:

So I will be heading down to St Jean de Luz tomorrow morning. We have had a strange lot of weather down here these last few days with a lot of wind so my eye has been on the forecast. So I have found a really detailed weather site. The site is for surfers so it gives a huge amount of info on not only the sea state but the wind direction . Tomorrow the waves will not be huge but still around 4 to 5 ft the wind is going to be off shore and the weather is dry and sunny with a max temp of about 18C . If nothing else because it is my first time fishing there I may get an idea of the place, just been relying on google earth so far.

Someone tipped me off this morning on Youtube about a site I hadn't seen before. Windy.com gives winds, rain, sea state and other useful info. Just zoom in for your own location. I think they have phone apps too.

Also works on your actual location with the BBC weather app for mobiles.

Well that was the first trip to the French Atlantic coast in ! It was a very lovely day today the air temp reached a high of 21C and if you were in the sun you could really feel it ... spring is in the air.
The fishing was not brilliant although I did get one take that immediately started to take line I lifted the rod and tried to tighten the drag a bit but within a few seconds my line was slack again :ROFLMAO: . The sea conditions were not all that great in as much as some fairly heavy surf was crashing into the area I was trying to fish so that could have been better. The area looks as though t could fish well but the main issue is access the cliffs although not high are... shall we say precipitous and also I did not want to be too ambitious for a first time out. A guy came alone and started surfing at one point as the surf did get up a bit. I reckon that later in the year things will be better when I can fish at dawn and dusk it was very sunny today. Would have liked to god a look at the fish that took my lure though because it headed of at a rate!
A few photos and I have a short vid of the place I fished today taken about two hours before high tide cannot post the vid though.

First try under your belt.
Yes but I will be waiting until we are out of this curfew situation before I try again, I could have fished for another couple of hours easy but had to pack up to get back before 1800  . I think later in the summer months it will be a better day fishing getting started at dawn will be better. The swell today was not too bad but some of the waves just off shore were a good six feet high I watched a guy surfing them god knows what it must be like when the waves are really high? He got wiped out a couple of times today I don't think I would be fishing in that spot when the surf is running high :ROFLMAO:

nice day 21d shame about the loss what was it likely to be ? what were you fishing for

I was using lures that would use for bass, I suspect that it would have been a bass in the surf. It certainly gives you a jolt when you have been fishing a while without a touch then the reel starts giving up line with that nice sound. I don't think I had the drag set right and the fish was not hooked right and got rid of the lure? I have to be honest I do not know what else it would have been.
The place is really nice but those flat rocks are like glass. I wanted to move around the corner there it looked good, a bit less surf, but the rock was just too slick for my liking.

Good report - shame no fish. Looks an interesting mark though. ??

I think later in the year all along that part of the coast could be good the problem is access . Also it is a coast road so there is no decent parking. I still have to explore the beach areas so a lot to do over the summer.

You need to get yourself some studded boots. No rocks are slippery then, not even slimy green ones

The access issue could be sorted in the summer months when there is less surf because once down there you could work your way around the place with decent footwear... would not want to be down there with a bit of surf running though. If you travelled light just lures and a stash of grub for the day in a rucksack could be a good all day session.
