Hi all, yep went out again!

The wife was out for a few hours yesterday evening, so although still knackered from the rays.... Got in around 0330 ?.... I just had to try again for a sole ?.... They will be gone soon after all.

A quick look at tides told me it was either rush and do a couple easy high tide hours or wait and do a very late low!.... I couldn't face the rays if I'm honest so high it was.

I realised I was now too late to see the ground, as the tide will have covered it before my arrival, so out came the laptop and google maps again.

I was keen to try a new spot along a stretch I'd had some good catches from of late, as to date I'd not caught any sole from the various ones I'd tried, but a mate had caught a couple, so they were about.... Just finding one on the day.

A likely patch of mud at around 90y looked a possibility... So with it copied to the phone, off I went hoping it would be free.

It was, and out went the baits near high.

I had a quick chat to some local lads who were bite less after a couple of hours or so, then settled in for a quick 2 hours.

A lovely evening again, light offshore wind and warm and sunny.
Just pouring a coffee and noticed a bit of slack... The left rod had moved a bit!

Not much now happening though so left it a bit, then a tiny bit more slack. I was only on 140g pyramid leads at this point and with the tide starting to move and weed in the water.... I wasn't sure if it was a bite!

I decided to check the bait and put a gripper on anyhow.

There was a bit of weight... Weed?.... Not sure... Then a tug... A fish ?.... Careful does it as def not a ray!
Well when I saw it.. I was pleasantly surprised.... My target first cast.... A nice sole of 1lb 12oz....happy days ?

Love these fish, hard to find in the channel on my side but a good stamp when you do.

Fresh bait out, not really minding now if that was the only bite, and out came the coffee. Bite!!.... Bloody hell, why does that always happen when you pour a drink!!

A tugging scrap and an eel of maybe 6lb was looking at me.

Bait back out, had a couple coffees.... Thinking about changing bait and in again. Similar scrap just up a notch.... And a better eel around 9lb I'd guess. IMG_20210918_185452~2_resize_68.jpg

Some lads were packing now, not long to go.
And with that the lad next to me had his first bite.... A good scrap and a surprise hound on lug/squid!! A nice fish, 8/9lb maybe.

I walked over to see if he needed a hand landing it and looking back, I could see 1 of my rods was moving!!..... Bugger!

A quick trot back but all was now still!
Pretty sure the left rod had moved I picked up the rod and felt for further bites the line slowly started to tighten so I lifted the rod and sure enough had a fish on.
It started to kite... Not really pulling much... Bass I hoped ?
I soon saw a fin.... Nope not a bass, a small hound... Another surprise, again on worm.
Smaller than the lads first one, but nice to get. IMG_20210918_191151_1~2_resize_65.jpg

The lads next to me packed now, and I stayed for a couple more casts, but that was it.... Short and sweet..... And no winged Bandits ???

Cheers Si

Am I glad I did the easy option!

Messaged a mate that did do the long walk and go out through the early hours! Screenshot_20210919_114555_com.facebook.orca~2.jpg
He was cold as well, and caught 3 straps targeting hounds ?

Ah poor lad, I felt sorry for him and the other lads out☹️..... That's the not so nice trip, when stuff is just hard work!

Another great report Si! Lovely looking Sole - target achieved! ??

Nice report once again and a cracking sole. Really need to have a few sessions targeting something different up the channel. The lure of a good ray or hound tends to cloud my braincell.?

Another quality session there Si, well done on hitting the target (y) (y), that pic of the strap tho, that's a face that only a mother could love and a blind mum at that, but thing is, you have to keep going back and looking at him!!! or that just me:unsure::unsure:

That's what I like about taking pics, if you spend time looking, you can capture that interesting shot... Even with just a phone, a bog standard strap pic has a bit of life and interest ?
