Its even earlier than Tuesdays 4am start.
3:30 the alarm call sounds and its time to get up and moving. I have 45 minutes to get ready before I have to take Jax to work. The option of going back to sleep is not there, I have to get up.
So, if one has to be up, one may as well go fishing
Rods, tackle box and the remainder of Tuesdays pack of Bluey are loaded up and off we go.
First from the Romney Marsh to Ashford then back to the Romney Marsh by way of Hythe. This also meant I had to navigate Kents new open landfill site, also known as the M20 between J10a and J11
As I arrived at my venue of choice the temperature registered at a not too bad 0 deg c but a rather chilly wind was blowing from the north, I was glad to have put on a thermal base layer!
Having little success on Tuesdays flood tide I arrived an hour and a half before low, plenty of time for the last of the ebb.
Toys for today were a beautifully rebuilt pair of 2500's C/O Lee @ Zziplex and Chris Dance (picked up for a steal on fleabay) and the green mag elites used on Tuesday.
Rigs were as usual for ray hunting for me, 6/0 up and over pennell's, filled with a finger sized slice of Bluey. Speaking of fingers, mine were frozen as I had forgotten any gloves!
The tide was larger than Tuesdays and the first gully was only calf deep as I waded through it and up the sand bar before casting out to around 100 yds.
Rods now back on the MTi tripod I thrust my hands deep into my pockets in an attempt to bring some warmth to my frozen pinkies!
Twenty minutes later and a rattle indicates something has taken interest in the bait. Dogfish?
Sea rat more like, and so it was proved when I wound in!
Rod number two was wound in shortly afterwards, revealing a crab mangled bluey.
The next hour saw two more sea rats wound in.
The target of 100 rays could not be reached. I was only 80 away from achieving it!
And that is it 2020 fishing over and done with.
Highlights?
The cod fishing in Norway back in February and taking the title of DAA Members League Winner at my 2nd attempt.
Lowlights? No UK Cod, again
