1. Any disadvantage in using 3-in-1 oil in my 6000's? They've had a good clean-out and excess/old grease has been removed.
2. I've just bought some 15lb Diawa Hyper Sensor. What are your impressions of this line compared to, say, ordinary Sensor, or Maxima which is my usual go-to.

Cheers.

I use rocket oil in mine, 3 in 1 is not recommended (ask black dog)

I use the same oil that is used for sewing machines on my reels, can't remember the name of it.
I'm veering away from Rocket oil, because I think there may be other oil available which is just as good - open to suggestions though - sewing machine oil sounds interesting... 50-odd years ago I used to put STP in my car because I thought it would run faster  Some hope - it was a Morris Minor.

There is nothing fundamentally wrong with 3-in-1 (still has a place on my work bench), though NOT the stuff with added PTFE.

From a technical standpoint it makes reels run slower than some of the more specialised thin oils and it is also effected by the ambient temperature more (i.e. it thickens in the cold and thins in heat) but it works fine for most things and has done for decades.

One thing about it is that it does get thrown off quicker and I always feel it should be used every session for bearings. Personally I think it is a quiet oil ... a lot of the modern thin oils seem to make the bearings very noisy and particularly on reels like the USA 525s I find 3-in-1 makes them run a lot quieter.

Great information - thank you.

I've used sewing machine oils for years, the old boys who taught me how to use a multiplier used it,& I just did the same.

I've used rocket oil since it came out, or at least since I first became aware of it, and I believe the 6500 mag elites have yellow rocket oil from the factory.
Interestingly I always thought that red was the fast oil so I've always used the yellow "just to be on the safe side" then watching my Neil Mackellow tuning vid again, he says it's the other way around yellow is faster  .
Line wise I always use different line on whichever pair of reels I'm using, if only to aid untangling.

That's interesting Russ👍 What is/are the issue/s with the 3in1 with PTFE?
