Hi all, what a week it’s been. I’ve been out far too much, I won’t bore you with a full, blow by blow account but here are the highlights….
Sunday night the wife and I had friends over. A few mates were heading out but I’d told them I couldn’t make it. However, our friends left earlier than anticipated and when the wife said she was going to bed, there was only one place I was headed!! I got to the beach late, nearly 2hrs after HW. I met with my friends and they’d been proper having it. I witnessed one of them pulling in a 13lber whilst another told me of a 17lbs 12oz fish he’d just returned!!
With not a second to lose, I got set up and one rod was cast out. I hadn’t even got the 2nd fully baited when my ratchet tore off. A great fight ensued and before long I had joined my mates on the score sheet with a stunning 11lbs 6oz specimen.
I dropped 2 more that night and landed another of 8lbs 4oz. Between the 6 of us, we’d landed 22 fish including 5 doubles.
Monday night came and I was always going to go back after the bonanza the previous night. The fish were finicky to say the least, I missed several and dropped a couple too but I did manage 3 more to 7lbs 13oz.
I was disappointed with Mondays return (I put it down to the rough weather and endless rain) so of course, I was out again Tuesday night ?. Again, the fishing was tough but the building tide and increasing weed didn’t seem to put the fish off too much and they were still present. I had another 3 in the end with the biggest going 8lbs 12oz.
There was a game of football on the Wednesday that I’d heard was important so I figured I’d stop bothering the fish and watch that instead. With the tides now heading towards springs and the highs getting later, I figured I’d had my fill for these tides and told the wife I wouldn’t be out until the weekend or beyond. But……
Thursday at work, I received a text from a friend who has been working lates and was desperate to get out. I won’t lie, I didn’t need a huge amount of persuasion!!
I got down to the beach, skeptical I’d have much of a productive session and got set up. Within minutes my first fish of the night came in at 6lbs 6oz. Somewhat surprised, I cast out again in mid-flood amongst the weed and within a short time fish no.2 for the night was on. A much better offering, just shy of a double at 9lbs 12oz.
The night went on and I landed another 3 as well as losing a fourth. It was a far better night than I’d predicted!
As the tide turned, the weed came on in full force and I started to pack things up. I noticed one of my lines had disappeared way off to my right and I sighed at the prospect of dragging up a cannon ball of weed against the ever increasing tide run but as I lifted in, it fought back!
It was a challenging fight and when she hit the shingle, I could see she was a better fish. I wasn’t expecting it to pull the scales down to a whopping 14lbs 1oz though, my biggest this year so far!!
Weed and tide made continuing impossible but after 4 sessions out with 14 fish,
book-ended by doubles, I couldn’t be too dismayed!
Now, when are the next good looking tides?!! ? ??
