Hi all, what a lovely weekend we’ve had!
It started on Friday with getting the boat ready for sat and sun then to shoot over to the shingle to start with a few rays. I met a friend down the east end about 3pm, it was quite a miserable day but as soon as i landed on the shingle everything changed. We had the bright thing in the sky come out and the wind was off shore - perfect for sending baits out-out, with slabs of swell surging up the bank and the milky white water backwashing to about 40yards. There were a few other fisherthems on the beach and it wasn’t long before everyone was hauling flat rats up the shingle. It was a mad 3 hrs fishing session with over 15rays between 3 guys. Blondes, thornbacks, small eyes, spotted’s
It was all timed perfectly
Drive to location in the rain
Land on the beach
Sunshine and perfect weather
Short and sharp session
Sunset
Return home just in time for 2 guests arriving from cornwall.
Sat morning we set off on gadget to compete in the dartmouth plaice comp. After cruising round to dart from Torquay and signing on we headed to drift the skerries.
The plaice were showing but they were all small but what was a good sign was how many dab we caught. After realising we weren't going to get a flat over a 1 1/2 lb we decided to give the ray fishing ago on the banks. The boys had brought light gear including there 6g lrf/trout rods. This will be fun i thought.
The rays were on the feed with a steady stream of blondes in to double figures. But what great idea it was to use light gear!
What I witnessed was big blondes being caught and they fought like a tuna, they were running around the boat with 6g rods fully loaded drags going and belly laughing.
Absolutely fantastic!
We had 16 species over the 2 days with some pretty good action recorded and memories made.
I haven’t transferred any footage yet but these 2 pics will give you an idea.
Ill put the vid up in the next few days. Its full of smiles, laughter, good weather and pully fighty things on the end of rods!
