Fished Studland beach Monday night with @DJDBazzer.

Arrived at low so able to check the ground. Found a few lug casts and Bazzer showed his skills by digging some out of the sand with his bare hands! It was slow fishing and a big tide. There was not much beach left when we left it and we had to retreat quickly. Sadly not the spread of species l expected. Managed another flounder (number 5 for the year) and a few bass.

One strange event was we could hear a plane or helicopter, but could not make it out what it was due to its speed and sound. It hovered over Old Harry Rocks in the dark, and then landed just on the mainland.

Van and the sunrise over Kimmeridge Bay. Chuffed with this picture by Bazzer.

We arrived at Swanage early on Tuesday morning. Gregs was open so Bazzer went hunter/gathering! While l put the kettle on. Breakfast on the prom was a great way to start the day.

We got our kit ready and went onto the pier, but we were then asked to leave, as it is not properly open until the 12th. I had checked on the website which said it was open! No point arguing with the pier guys as they are volunteers and nice people.

So back in the vans and off we go to Weymouth Stone Pier. It was very quiet both with people and fish. On a good day 50 plus fish, including gar and mackerel is easy, but not that day. 2 Tompot, a corkwing and 4 or 5 ballan wrasse gave me an extra 2 species for the species hunt, so pleased enough. The tompot was not happy as his picture shows!

The same day we saw a Bell Boeing V-22 Osprey landing in The navy base. The planes that can take off vertically. What a machine! That explained what we had seen at Studland.

Wednesday morning we fished Calshot West end beach from low. The fishing was quiet until nearly high, then flounder number 6 for the year and a bass came in.

A good if not really productive 3 days fishing, but time well spent with a good mate. Roll on more traveling. Good luck all.

The SBS lads from Rockley exercise around the Old Harry area, watching a Chinook squat with its bum in the water for their rib to drive straight in is an interesting diversion from watching the rod tips.

Good to see that your helicopter attracting force field still works.

Waiting for warmer weather, my new rods to arrive and a Species Hunt to start.
I've decided I need a pair of 8' 40g spinning rods, as you do when you've already got about 30 rods of various sorts.

Seen one of those ospreys fly over here, rum looking things I must say. We occasionally get the odd chinook come over and quite often have some spectacular flybys by the Apaches. Oh we do get real ospreys stop over for a few weeks in the spring as well.

Great report and pics, well done on the fish you had (y) (y) . Its bloody frustrating when your after a new species and hoping the next bite is the one, then turns out to be another Flounder or bloody Pouting.

Brilliant report (y)

Captain Haddock reckons l am a helicopter magnet! Always seem to be 1 or 3 around when we fish.

Cheers mate. It must be getting close to time for me to come down? Happy to wait for a bonanza though!
