Having had a look at my last report it seems like it has been over a year since I was last out sea fishing.
Studying the weather last week it looked like there was a bit of an opportunity to fish saturday night in to sunday high being 00.04 am sunday morning.
Got the mate fired up to visit our usual spot and go earlier than normal to fish with the lures to start with then on to the bait rods in to dark and fish up to high.
Plan hatched.
Collected mate and heading to the mark, the wind was blowing a hoolie when it was supposed to be calming off. I set up the spinning rod and had a few chucks but it was unfishable with the lighter gear.
We both set up two big rods and out went the fishy bait, wind still a pain in the arse.
Mate was first in with a doggie and I followed then nothing for ages then it went mad. I had a doggie he had a doggie then I think it went.

whiting - doggie
thorny - whting
whiting - whiting
thorny - doggie

By this time I was down to one rod as I had a wind knot in the braid just about two inches behind the leader know which I couldn't be arsed fixing. It also rained, not in the forecast and eventually about an hour before high the wind calmed down to what was forecast.

I then got a final doggie to take the lead as we were about to pack down, victory seemed to be mine, not that the mate counts of course.
But then the bugger reels in a double shot of doggie and whiting on his last rod. 9-7 to the mate. Didn't even know they were on says he!
I caught all of my fish on small pieces of sardine he was on macky.
We also both had loads of bites that didn't stick and I lost a doggy to a snapped trace body, which I have no idea how it happened.
So an enjoyable night back out on the rocks even when they turned a bit slippery with the rain.
I should have taken a picture of what I am calling the second thorny as it was almost thorn free and was covered in black spots , none of the lighter blotches and patches or the central ring in the middle of the wing.

Hopefully it won't be another year until the next time.

Nice write up.(y)
Thank you.
I wish I had taken a picture of the second ray I caught as it had a very different look. I thought at the time it might have been a spotted ray, but never having caught one before I wasn't sure. Didn't take my time as I got it unhooked and back in the water quick.
