didn't know what to do with myself so loaded car with gear just in case & after a swift libation in westbury drove to mums , nattered to her & discussed dads fishing gear .

then as it was only just gone 9 & i didn't want to go home i went down to lee on solent for an attempted smut hunt , must have been 10pm & gone by the time i got there .

high tide was somewhere around 4.2m 11pm id guess, weather was calm & dry. this end of the beach was busy but i found a free bay and squeezed in.

baits were 2 sml bluey & 1/2 a pack of squid.

rigs were an up n over and a pulley .

i set up dads old 12 ft sadstorm with his green cs mag elite 1st then my awb with a 7ht , the pulley rig was on the sandstorm.
i heard no crys of delight or saw no fish caught by the other rods but i didnt see what happened on the flood.

it was a peacefull night after about half an hour i noted a bite on the awb and hooked into a fish that was obviously the smutty target, following a brief run up n down i had it beached , it looked 6-8lb but ive not seen one for a while so size could be off a bit.

the beast was deep hooked and so just pics and a release as i didnt want to mess about weighing it. a short while later a bite on the sandstorm yealded a pup, it was good to catch on dads gear & id forgotten how smooth the abu felt.

anglers started to leave the beach around midnight, and i managed to snare a dogfish, the ebb set in and it went quiet, i noticed another doggie type nod on the awb and found myself pumping in a bit of a dead weight. which started to kite about before showing itsself to be a thornie of 6lb

that was a bonus , the night was showing a bit of a result after all. i fished on till 0245 ish by which time the tide had droped away but i managed a last cast dogfish leaving scores at 2 doggies, 2 smuts & a raymond. not so bad for a short sesh.

Good going for such a short session ?

Great report and cracking photos GJ - well done mate! Always good to catch something on your Dad's old gear - it may be old but still catches Fish! ????

Nice one Gordon, sometimes these spur of the moment trips are way better than planning them for week!
