Had another go this evening at my favourite Mullet spot, after just catching loads a small Bass a couple a days ago there.
First few a casts brought in the pest fish, these little schoolies are just bait rippers, after a few more casts I was more than happy lading my first Thin Lipped of the year, not the biggest by a long way, but a welcome new species.
After popping him back I was hopping for a better one but alas I was just hitting small Bass cast after cast, so decided on a change of spots, no Bass at the new spot but the Mullet wasn't in a feeding mood just following, fish after fish came to my feet behind the lure and not one grabbed it, off to a different spot, where I could see Mullet swimming around, but they wasn't in the feeding mood either, I watched the spinner go between two nice fish and they didn't even batting an eye at it. grrr.
Then the wind dropped, the water stilled and the Mullet fecked off! unfortunately the baby Bass didnt, 20 of them later and I gave up, while putting the gear away there was a loud splashing and a Cormorant came out the water struggling with a eel in its mouth, after several dives and a lot a laughing from me he emerged straight necked crocking finally swallowing the eel down his neck, a strange end to a fun session.
