🤭 Talking of pissing people off and nothing to do with bells! But I had a chuckle to myself a few weeks ago, there I was fishing in the dark with my headlamp on its low setting looking at my rod tips (light away from the water I hasten to add!) when a Dad and his lad walked past stopped for a...
Yeah I do…the angle of line to rod tip is less than facing the sea, so the slightest movement is magnified.
Here on the southeast coast most anglers set up this way. For me it stems back to my match angling days.
I have mine with the wind and always parallel with the waters edge.
I get better bite detection this way and never had an issue with the rods going over… apart from the odd very decent fish
Or look for rods with sliding reel seats (SRS) then put the reel where ever suits.
If using for beach casting you can’t get your thumb right over the spool for grip during a reasonably powerful cast as the top bar that guides the level wind gets in the way and the spool will slip.
I’ve never used a fixed spool as a beach reel, lure fishing and freshwater yes but the thought of cutting a digit off with a slipping clutch freaks me out!
Go for the multiplier! If you go fixed spool first that doesn’t really help with a transition later on. It’ll just give you the back up of...
Ooh, halfway between the point and the pool! 👍 Let us know how you get on…I’m thinking of either further down in the bay or Pevensey bay tomorrow evening.
Maybe a ray about…
Would the transducer ping through the hull?
When I had a fibreglass boat I glued a profile of 100mm drain pipe just to one side of the bilge and fitted the transducer through an end cap. Filled the pipe with castor oil so the transducer would be submerged when the cap was fitted. I used to get...
All the tip rings on my rods are 12mm so I have a 60lb swivel as I use a 60lb leader attached with a breakaway fastlink through that…comes through the eyes easily and keeps line tidy on my multiplier …simples
I set rods in the tripod to just less than parallel to the sea. I see the movement in the rod tips better than upright facing the sea. I like to have the rod tips as low as possible depending on conditions purely because sitting on my tackle box I like to look level if that makes sense instead...
That’s why I said at HW when on the HW bank “if weather and sea conditions allow” !!
Obviously if conditions weren’t right then I wouldn’t!
Think I been doing it long enough to know! 🤔
I’ve never had a tripod with bracing, I’ve always used Ian Golds tripods too.
At HW (when on HW bank) if weather and sea conditions permit I like to get the rods almost horizontal so I’m not straining my neck!
Well hello Mr Gunner!
I am planning a trip down there next week and also a trip early September.
Be prepared for, Black Bream, Conger. Mackerel, dare I say it…Cod!
Take Rag, Lug, Squid and Mackerel.
I only pilgrimage there 2 or 3 times a year and it seems the locals are either busy fishing or...
