    Asso tapered line?

OK in the future I'll make sure the braid is wrapped tight on the spool when retrieving (they're not overspooled) and the knot is at the bottom of the spool. The missus took a video of me casting and the tip moves quite fast back and forth, only for a bit, and I wondered if that was a reason for...

    Asso tapered line?

    DOH! Brain failure pffff

    Asso tapered line?

OK thanks I can give that go. In case it matters the rods I've been using lately are very light (150g max cast weight) so I've stuck to 3.5oz

    Asso tapered line?

It's already happened - got snagged on someone's old leader! So replaced the entire line with a new one. What does FS stand for? I thought about using a braid leader - is this what you use? And I guess my reels do sit relatively high on the rod (see picture). I didn't realise the first guide was...

    Asso tapered line?

Have you guys tried this? I typically use a tapered leader tied (Albright) to 20lb braid BUT I find the knot catches on the guides, not sure why, maybe the way I cast? And at some point the leader will crackoff 😒 Anyway a few months ago I tried this Asso line (80-18lb) and OH MY DAYS I loved...

    Mankini? 🫣

    Rig building

I've just come back from France/Spain with ~£2k of UK bought kit (waaaaaay too much kit) - I didn't know crazy stuff like this could happen 😒

    How Much kit ?

Minimalist kit for me because I like simplicity and "good weather" so: tripod, rods, reels, tackle box, bait, towel, and mischievous dog.

    Ian Golds Rod Rests

Same - wanted something lighter than the Shakespeare, the Ian Golds is now a touch heavier BUT more importantly: rock solid

More unwanted by catch. New Brighton today

There are no consequences - stuff like this will continue to happen 😞

Fascinating! Your experience of the tripod I mean - not the growth :sneaky: What hybrid stuff did you end up doing?? What's odd is that many shops stand by and continue to sell them, VMO have a YouTube video praising them (the reason I got mine) and this is why part of me doubts my "bad"...

Yeah it slowly slides down during a session - honestly the tolerances are so slack - and yes it waggles too. I don't have any issues since cannibalising the Shakespeare parts :)

    Ian Golds Rod Rests

Nothing - it came in a transparent plastic bag, and it had a Ian Golds sticker attached to the V-section. I've just checked on Companies House and it looks like Rebecca and Kristopher (his kids?) are "...persons with significant control...". Anyway it doesn't matter, I was just curious, and...

It looks like mine! I don't get, maybe mine is faulty OR maybe I'm picky/anal 🤷‍♂️ Where did you go fishing?

Do you plastics look different to mine? Who's taken over Ian Golds then? Yeah I take you point, other companies have managed to catch up. Rod rest back in the days must have been awful then?

I'm 5'7 and barely have a size 7 foot :censored: Was planning to get a pair of Vass, tried their size 8 (because apparently you should go up a size so you have space to fit layers) and it was way TOO big. So now debating if to go for 7 or 6

    Ian Golds Rod Rests

OK proper pictures now... Basically what I've already mentioned: soft plastic, slack tolerances (f01 vs f02 & f04), less plastic too (f05). The other thing I forgot to mention is the aluminum the cups mount to will sit further away from the V-section using the Ian Golds clamp (f03) so even...

HA! Regarding short arses - what size waders do you go for? I'm not sure if to go for size 6 or 7 🤔

    Ian Golds Rod Rests

Yes and no - for sure the plastics weight a bit more (plus there are more plastic parts too) BUT the main weight difference is the extra aluminium to make it telescopic. Ahhh a trolley - I'm tempted to get one, for now I'll stay put as I like to keep kit to a minimum.
