    Match Fishing

Fishing in close proximity to others, ie in a match, I use 80Lb body and snoods between 20 & 40Lbs to suit conditions.

    Pulley rig

Usually with this set up, the fish (assuming we are not tiddler bashing) will trip the lead and hook itself. The rod tip may pull down, but (assuming it's got a bend in it) will spring straight and the line often slackens .

    Match Fishing

Hi Robbie. For general match fishing (ie targeting all and everything in size), as I said on your other thread, 3 hook clipped and 3 hook flappers in sizes 4 to 2/0 Normal approach is 1 rod 3 hooks fished as efficiently as possible. Bait up, cast out, bait up a second rig. Have a 3rd set up un...

    Match Rod

I think the term "match' rod is not really that helpful. If we look at match fishing as being the art of catching as many in size fish as possible, in a short a time as possible, what you need is a rod capable of putting the baited trace the required distance using sufficient lead to hold...

    Match rigs

So it's 3 hook clipped for distance 3 hook flapper for close in. Hooks size 4 to 2/0 (2/0 particularly useful if its triple shots of dogs every few minutes). Rig and snood length vary with the tide and local preference. A good start would be a 4' rig with snoods around 12". Don't forget a...

    New Beach casting multiplier advice

Fathom 15s are good reels. Treat yourself to a good condition 2nd hand MK1 version as they are better than the newer ones 👍

A reflection from fishing this year, what are your targets for the next?

I think I'll give up sea fishing and concentrate more on embroidery.

    Rod bells..

That was the sound that called the cod. It's changed now to some god awful electric beep🤬😡🤯

    Rod bells..

I do laugh at the bass = no lights. Biggest load of 💩 going. Get those lights blazing. Especially if you are releasing lots of whiting/pouting close in. Once the bass are feeding, you can keep a belly up whiting in full beam and watch Mr spiky nail it.

    Rod bells..

Leave on for winding in, off for casting 👍

A reflection from fishing this year, what are your targets for the next?

I've never really been that keen on travelling to fish. An hour at most. If I thought there was a realistic chance of a decent bag of cod, Id go. But there is not, so I don't.

    Akios S-Line 656 csm shuttle

I'll go against the grain. Fixed spool reels are not necessarily easier to USE than a multiplier reel. The difficulty is getting a multiplier set up correctly. The biggest mistake a new user makes is having them overfilled and running way too fast. I started my OH Jax off with a fixed spool...
