Went out again today to use up my bait and get more fishing in before back to work ?
Plenty more whiting but also a couple of schoolies on the pop ups.
Some of the whiting were very fat - full of shrimp but also what I presume to be roe. Any adventurous anglers ever tried frying off some...
If the water is clear then you might catch more at night. But I don’t think it makes a huge difference, my PB whiting (pushing 50cm) was caught in bright sunshine, albeit coloured water.
Yes I know, who in their right mind purposely targets whiting ? But you can only catch what’s there, and better catch whiting a short walk from home than a two hour round trip to Dungeness to catch the same thing!
So over the festive period I’ve had a few local sessions on the swale looking for...
Couple of hours after work, managed two dogfish.
No bass but what an evening to be out!!
Still got a score or two left so will have another crack tomorrow :)
A lot of effort there Alan but worth it for the keeper. I’m fishing relatively near to you at the moment and the weed has been pretty bad for this time of year. Very odd! But still some bass to be had I think.
Great report!
My phone does the same so I take a portable charger with me. They’re inexpensive and find that when the battery drops quickly it charges back up quickly too! Worth it for that one time that you catch a cracker and need a pic ;)
Looking forward to it! There wasn’t much weed about when I dug my bait this morning… but there was loads about today. Stringy thready stuff, lettuce, bladder. Gross haha
Hah I know what you mean but they’re not that common round this way unlike Dungeness so pleased to catch one ?
That’s it for today, missed quite a few more bites so will get some smaller fresh hooks for tomorrow’s short session.
Cracking schoolie second cast! Terrific bite and a bit hair raising getting him in. Fair bit of weed about so had to hand line him when the leader got stuck!
Just under size so he went back.
Back out locally! I dug a few score of worm in the thick fog, that was a bit eery and had to take my compass with me just in case ?
But what a stunning day it’s turned out to be.
