South East Whiting bash, change of tactics required

Went out again today to use up my bait and get more fishing in before back to work ? Plenty more whiting but also a couple of schoolies on the pop ups. Some of the whiting were very fat - full of shrimp but also what I presume to be roe. Any adventurous anglers ever tried frying off some...

South East Whiting bash, change of tactics required

If the water is clear then you might catch more at night. But I don’t think it makes a huge difference, my PB whiting (pushing 50cm) was caught in bright sunshine, albeit coloured water.

South East Whiting bash, change of tactics required

Yes I know, who in their right mind purposely targets whiting ? But you can only catch what’s there, and better catch whiting a short walk from home than a two hour round trip to Dungeness to catch the same thing! So over the festive period I’ve had a few local sessions on the swale looking for...

    South East Dabs

I caught my PB (32cm) dab New Year’s Day at Whitstable a few years back ??

    Lures for whiting

As Wolf suggested I’ve caught them on a slow retrieved Dexter at night - surprisingly good fun on light tackle! Also a few mackerel the same session.

    North East Wahooo part 2

Great report! Really like the look of that venue fishing out of your car is appealing.

South East A couple of recent & decent sessions - Night & Day

Excellent second session there, first one sounded like a mare! As Shirley said bucket of water off the tripod using bungee cords keeps it solid.

South East Dug some worm, let’s see what it catches…

Couple of hours after work, managed two dogfish. No bass but what an evening to be out!! Still got a score or two left so will have another crack tomorrow :)

South East North Kent bass hunt at silly o'clock

A lot of effort there Alan but worth it for the keeper. I’m fishing relatively near to you at the moment and the weed has been pretty bad for this time of year. Very odd! But still some bass to be had I think.

    South Coast Hayling 09/10

Great report! My phone does the same so I take a portable charger with me. They’re inexpensive and find that when the battery drops quickly it charges back up quickly too! Worth it for that one time that you catch a cracker and need a pic ;)

South East Gilthead Bream at Hythe.

I’m tempted to take my kayak down there to see if the weed can be avoided a tad further out, or failing that just having less line out …

South East Dug some worm, let’s see what it catches…

Looking forward to it! There wasn’t much weed about when I dug my bait this morning… but there was loads about today. Stringy thready stuff, lettuce, bladder. Gross haha

South East Dug some worm, let’s see what it catches…

Hah I know what you mean but they’re not that common round this way unlike Dungeness so pleased to catch one ? That’s it for today, missed quite a few more bites so will get some smaller fresh hooks for tomorrow’s short session.

South East Dug some worm, let’s see what it catches…

Cracking schoolie second cast! Terrific bite and a bit hair raising getting him in. Fair bit of weed about so had to hand line him when the leader got stuck! Just under size so he went back.

South East Dug some worm, let’s see what it catches…

Back out locally! I dug a few score of worm in the thick fog, that was a bit eery and had to take my compass with me just in case ? But what a stunning day it’s turned out to be.
