North Wales My Fishing Year Part 1

Sedgley these days mate. On the West side of the Beacon so I overlook the Shropshire plains rather than West Bromwich, which was recently rejected as a twin-town for Kabul (apparently, they we’re Ok with being associated with the desolate town centre but couldn’t reconcile themselves with the...

They wouldn’t have me in Kidderminster Dave.

    General Shetland June 2021

Shetland! Where do I start. I love the place. Remote, rugged, beautiful. Brutal too. Four of us go every year: me, my son Mark, my ex-workmate and good friend John; and John’s father-in-law and good friend Col. The four musketeers (four piss-heads more like!). After much planning and...

North Wales My Fishing Year Part 1

Well, I’m done fishing for this year. It’s time to reflect on what I did (or could do, given the constraints of lockdowns etc). These days I still do virtually all of my UK fishing on and around the Lleyn Peninsula, mostly alone but occasionally with friends and family. It was a slow start to...

    Advice Quantum Cabo PTSE

I’ve no experience of the Penn Spinfisher, but have owned two Cabo‘s for several years now. I‘m no expert on the internals but they feel like really solidly engineered reels. Proper lightweight workhorses they are. I reckon they’ll outlast all my other spinning reels. I think the 4000 would work...

They’re Still Around … (and it serves me right!)

I’m not a big fan of Bass to eat. I rarely keep one for the table. Besides, I’ve still got half a chest freezer full of pristine Cod and Haddock to get through from a trip to Shetland in the summer :)

    North Wales Still trying.

Great write-up as ever Andy. Fingers crossed that weather Gods play ball and extend your season :)

They’re Still Around … (and it serves me right!)

.. or crashed! I was pretty groggy ? I noticed that. No idea what could have caused it. It was hooked in the mouth, so I don’t think it was anything I did. Hopefully it will still live a long and successful life. I’ve certainly seen fish with far worse injuries, particularly in Shetland...

They’re Still Around … (and it serves me right!)

I’d intended to take the boat for a run down the coast this morning to see whether the Bass were still about. However, after a good meal and a tiny bit too much wine last night, I woke, thought “Sod it”, and went back to sleep ☺️. I got up a little late to a reproachful look from the dog. After...

North Wales Tope session and a lesson learnt

Not sure that a net is the solution singlehandedly on the rocks in a swell. A weigh-sling was my jinx . I stopped weighing them in the end

North Wales I think they're getting the hang of it.

Cracking report as ever Andy. Well done to you and the lads :) Get used to it mate. My son has already caught several species that I’m still to open my account on, including Allis Shad, Halibut and John Dory . My 9yr old grandson is also now getting in on the act with a 3lb lure...

    It’s Been a Long Time …

..since I fished from the shore. Even longer since I posted a report. Sorry about that, I’m getting lazy in retirement! So, I got to the caravan in Pwllheli on Thursday. The winds were stronger than forecast so I took the opportunity to get the boat off the water and get the hull cleaned. This...
