    Speed

Neil, were you drifting or under anchor ? if you are drifting as I would expect , then the boat is actually under way using wind and tide , and that does give movement to the lure , I wind in >> very << slowly in that scenario. You can just slowly raise and lower the rod top without actually...

Fishing haunts from Wadebridge Cornwall in March

A quick look on “The Tube” will give you lots of tips for Mullet on lures , it is a bit of a neglected method but works so well . Dave

Fishing haunts from Wadebridge Cornwall in March

More or less what Minstrel says, I would add that there are several places along the Camel Trail from Wadebridge to Padstow where you can access the Camel, you will have a fair to middling chance of catching the odd Bream , or maybe a Bass. Its a bit early for Bream, but you never know . At...

    Pulley beads or large swivel

I arent a fan of the standard pulley rigs, missed some very positive bites using them. However, I do like a semi Pulley. The semi Pulley always has the hooks behind the sinker as with the normal pulley, but because the pulley effect only acts on about six inches or so of mainline it does not in...

    PR Knot

Both do the same job but the FG is easier to tie and does not need anything but fingers to tie it . Dave

    PR Knot

Sounds like an FG knot to me .I use an FG knot to connect different breaking strains of mono to Braid , never had a problem at all . Dave

    Quiver rod

I have an Abu multi quivertip boat match rod, its quite long at 11-1/2 feet , and really quite an old model, designed for the England boat match fishing team. There were not too may of them made I must have had it 20 years plus. No idea why more were not produced, as it is a fantastic blank...

A reflection from fishing this year, what are your targets for the next?

I am hoping to get out on the Whitby charters that I have booked . Last year seven were cancelled due to weather which is no good for the skipper , or me . Having moved , I am hoping to get more summer beach time in , chasing smoothies and bass . I am also looking forward to two weeks in...

    Rod bells..

I have had lots of Bass from Padstow harbour wall at night , right under the harbour wall lights , however the Bass are used to the lights as they are always on, in fact I think that the Bass know that the lights attract the smaller bait fish /sandeels etc and take advantage . I am not so sure...

    Rod bells..

I get laughed at by my mates for using a small chemical glowstick light on the rod tip.If I turned up using a bell on a clothespeg or similar I would be chased off the beach or chucked in the sea . Dave

    Anyone on here collect tackle?

Hi Mole Trapper , I collect vintage tackle, too much stuff really .When I realised that I had too much stuff I started to have have annual tables at vintage UK fishing tackle fairs to offload some of it , I now sell all sorts of vintage or bespoke copies of various tackles at the fairs . I also...

    Hand warmers

I think it runs in the family, my sister has it as well, her hands turn a dark livid blue that looks like bruising . My hands go snow white. I have it in my feet as well . When I hit the beaches for winter cod I look like Michelin man I have so many layers of clothes on. Plus thermal cap and...

    Hand warmers

I have a pair very similar Neil, great on a cold day . I have Reynauds Syndrome which means that I lose all use and feeling in my hands if they get cold , so they are a lifesaver when fishing in the cold. Another benefit is that they also double up as a phone charger, they will charge up your...

Continental Rod and FS Reel Suggestions Please

If you can find a Vercelli Spyra Nero powerr grab it . I use one on the Mersey , and on the Holderness. They are slim , light and will cast 175 grammes and bait easily so thats about as heavy a sinker as you would need.I have seen a few anglers using the Nero at Otterspool and on the other side...
