I have a pair of AirPower surfs, they are great for big weights and or big baits. Bite detection is awesome. Only use them when a light rod would struggle though.
I had a bumpy ride getting to that pair though by snapping a couple, they seemed to struggle at the tip to blank bonding. But...
I personally think Langney point is overrated,
It’s ok at the very end for Dover Sole …long beach I think it’s known as?
Splash point is ok for rays but I generally fish
In the bay between the two, had some good sessions with a few rays this time of year.
I’m a bit pi&@ed at the moment as gonna...
Yeah sounds like you got the “live lug” or in other words what we sometimes call “blow lug”
It’s a better than nothing for those who don’t like using frozen lug when the tides are short or the weather restricts the ability to get black lug.
I use fresh ungutted lug when surf fishing for Bass but...
I was gonna say, I never use tubing as just complicates the simplicity of effective rigs.
Common causes of tangles are in my experience
Tangles during the cast…hook lengths too long and overlapping the next swivel.
Hooks lengths tangled on retrieve…hook lengths too long for strength of tide...
Depends how you make your rigs I guess?
I don’t crimp the hook length swivel tightly so an inch or so between the crimps and the swivel floats, the slack is taken up by a power gum stop knot on the top hook length.
This allows me to change hooks and hook lengths quite easily after every session...

I also keep the rod tips as low as the...
For me the trace body is an extension of the shock leader, so 60lb zippy. Hook length strength is a topic in itself I use 30lb oblivion…may sound a bit over kill for lug baits etc but I find it gives good bait presentation by not flopping around or tangling up and I’ve never had issues catching...
I would also remove the side plate from the none drive side and remove the spool and drop a bit of oil (rocket fuel) in the drive side and bearings at a minimum
