    Shore Fishing Past and Present.

In comparing shore fishing today with decades ago I'm sure the friendly dimension will still be there as it was in yesteryear. Putting aside understandably not wanting to reveal your favourite bass marks etc, anglers like to talk and help one another. Salmon anglers certainly do during the...

    Shore Fishing Past and Present.

As I am about to return to shore fishing after many decades (though I do have yearly boat trips for bass and cod with my old mates) I got down several of my sea angling books from the loft and I bought several more second hand, many in nearly new condition at excellent prices. Reading them and...

Continental Rod and FS Reel Suggestions Please

I finally bought my long cast reel, a Penn Tidal XT 8000 long cast. Reviews were favourable and it’s the sort of price bracket that seemed right for an angler (me) who does not live on the coast but who wants to enjoy some occasional leisure sea fishing. I will load the two spools with 30lb...

Lots of food but very shallow.

Thanks for that. Have you done some You Tube films on boat fishing these areas by any chance? Certainly one guy from Fylde Boat Anglers has. And experienced boat anglers don’t need to worry about jelly sand or powerful tides. But I return to my original point which was the massive quantities...

And if flounders are the main quarry, with a light rod and reel in hand you can keep 'teasing' the bait along the bottom to appeal to their inquisitive nature. Mick

Lots of food but very shallow.

I have a carp creeper rod of 11’ and very light which might be a suitable rod with my Saragossa reel or even one of my pike baitrunners. It’s just an exploratory thing whilst taking no chances safety wise. Which is why the beaches nearer Liverpool might be a more sensible starting point. Mick

Lots of food but very shallow.

The area was south of Formby with massive expanses of sand. There is clearly food availability for fish but shallow CLEAR water may deter them because they would be vulnerable. In his excellent book on shore fishing, Mike Thrussel calls these lee beaches and stresses the need to search out...

Lots of food but very shallow.

Thanks for the reply but the key assumption I am making is that before you started fishing this area following the tide right out someone must have shown you the key elements of a safe retreat. Also you wisely state that you fish as a group. But I can now see in such clean beaches how a light...

Lots of food but very shallow.

When I was walking with a friend along some of the beaches south of Southport I noticed at a lowish tide the massive quantities of ‘spent’ razor clam, cockle and mussel shells and worm casts. Yet I know these beaches are renowned for their very, very gentle gradients. Indeed, I guess even with...

Continental Rod and FS Reel Suggestions Please

Could you tell me which big bait runners and do they have the excellent line lay too. I've used bait runners for my pike fishing for some time but too small for surf. Mick

Continental Rod and FS Reel Suggestions Please

The one thing I'm convinced about from your first post to so many others is that a more modern FS reel would offer much better line lay. BTW Tournamag replied to a PM I sent and gave me lots of good advice too. It makes obvious sense to keep practising with the Shakespeare K2. I'm fishing on...

Continental Rod and FS Reel Suggestions Please

The Mediterranean where continental rods were developed is virtually tideless and from my experience of snorkelling there clean sandy beaches are common, though I’ve no doubt there are exceptions, and to use a very through actioned rod with small weights would no doubt be very pleasurable, as it...
