It's quite likely that stem on which the star wheel sits has either cross threaded or stripped. That would be my first port of call. Don't think it would be drag washers.
Yeah, my mate had them for using on the Bristol channel, think i replaced them with either AFAW Match pro's or mk1 Tournament match's, since sold the Match pro's but kept the Tourny match's as they were rebuilt with titanium guides
Liked the Zulcrons, had a pair of the match's, wouldn't say there a beach rod or a match rod but they came into there own off my local rock marks ! good lifting rod as well !
Like many on here I too have had used many many rods, I have never been a fan of Zipplex, had around 6 different models (gets expensive when you purchase in pairs) and remained totally unimpressed with them, particulary the actions of the rods, all felt like casting with the butt section and...
It's getting harder and harder to find plaice, I usually fish the St Ives area for Plaice (mainly to the west of Porthmeor) best fishing has all but disappearred, but still one or two about but not the size they once were, my PB is a couple ounces shy of 5lb but this was a good few years ago, a...
Also got the Comp match GT's, Comp Naga's, Xenon powers (3piece, for the arkward spots for casting)AFAW match pro's, tourney matche's, Sonik gravity X5's, Abu Suverans (both the 4/8 and 4/6oz models) and many more rods that I can't think of at the mo (all pairs) Been down the British rod route...
Back to the Nitron's, I have a pair of the XP ones and find them a big improvement on the red one's , which were terrible, they cast well and have a much better retrieve than the originals, the XP's seem to be made much better than than the red ones and the gearing seems to mesh better unlike...
Anyone tried the newer Banzai ? monomag, one piece frame, slower retrieve which interests me as I would think it would make the retrieve more powerful, got plenty Abu's, Diawa's and especially Akios multi's, just interested in these because of the gear ratio - 4.4:1
Not as nice to use as the standard chrome shuttles, side by side the chrome one seem better quality, don't think they have any advantages over normal brass gearing either
Very rarely cast more than 150gm weights , have used 6oz for some venues but not often, if there's a tidal run I just drop line diameter, keeping same breaking strain, and cast up tide, works for me, getting way to old to go lobbing cannon 🐚 shells
