At the moment it's pout and rockling, there will be shannies and gobies in the rocks at the end of the short east arm. Chance of weevers out in mid harbour. Conger after dark. Chance of small pollack and maybe a whiting.

Advice Shore Fishing Rod & Reel combo for around £200, is there anything worth considering

Look for stuff being sold by a female, bloke's been chucked out/left her and she's selling at a price based on what he said he paid for it. Some real bargains to be had.

If it is not being used then how did it find its way into the shot birds? Are the researchers lying or are people still using lead shot? It's easy enough to tell the difference between lead and steel/whatever is now legal.

It must be true if you read it on the internet Is that not an attempt to belittle me ? If my research is wrong then tell us all why and where. If it's arrogance to point out how to debate in a civilised way then, yes. I'm arrogant. And correct.

The way debate works is that statements are made and evidence produced to back the statement. If it is thought to be false the other side finds and produces evidence to the contrary. Like any 'debate' on this forum it will degenerate into insults. Why not read the report and get back to me...

Average of 4 or 5oz per lead, nothing is likely to ingest those. The line 'problem' is the tiniest fraction of the plastics used in lost nets in commercial fishing..

Blame Google and AI research, not me, I just posted it. As it happens I was reading about it the other day. Research Findings: A study published in 2024 by the University of Cambridge found that 93% of pheasants destined for human consumption were killed using lead ammunition in the 2023/24...

Lead shot was supposed to be phased out for shotgun cartridges many years ago. It is still being used, even for water-fowling.

    Tripod orientation?

Put the rods up high for the line to clear waves, or to give yourself a crick in the neck, down lower and parallel to the shore for more comfortable viewing and easier bite detection. Many years ago some young French ladies skinny dipping just down the beach from us showed the wisdom of the...

    Number of rods and hooks

Thanks for your replies. I fish a Species Hunt with a club that applies the two rods three hooks match rule as if it is a one year long match. Another hunt is not restricted, it's a year spent pleasure fishing and recording each new species caught. This forum species hunt is fished this way...

    Number of rods and hooks

When pleasure fishing, how many rods do you use and how many hooks? Do you stick to the common match ruling of two rods and three hooks maximum ?

South Coast Dolphins, seagulls and pout in odd places!

I saw this fish and am quite happy to identify it as a Baillon's Wrasse. If you have seen more than a couple of Baillon's Wrasse you will spot them as they come out of the water, the overall pattern is quite distinctive. It is quite different to the female Corkwing Juveniles of many species do...
